Hi Everyone,

I have 2 copies of Queens "A Night At The Opera" (Just opened one, the other is still sealed) and I noticed standard jewel cases were used.

Could this be a fluke? I thought they all came with the lift-lock cases?

Thanks,

Matt

P.S. Nice work on this title Steve! It sounds great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a few with regular also. I believe DCC used both.

I believe DCC used lift-lock cases until they were no more. The ending seemed to coincide with MoFi's previous demise.

Hi,
Actually, I have a Hotel California and Night At Opera without the Liftlock. Not sure on Wheels Of FIre(I bought that right after it was released). Bought the first 2 @ retail store, and did not look like re-wraps.

I have lift-lock cases for the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" and The Doors self titled CD. In contrast I also have a standard CD jewel case for Dylan's "Highway 61"

All are bona fide 24K Gold DCC CD's...so I think it varies as to what was used. ;)

There is a new jewel box that trounces the lift lock and the regular. Telarc and the new Mo-fi are using them . They are Super Jewel Boxes.

Lotta work ,many pieces to put together(the project, not the jewel boxes). These Jewel boxes are unbelievable . made of heavy gauge plastic ,they look, feel and are deluxe. The texture is better.I might venture to say the discs sound better . Check it out, a new tweak:D

P.S. The NEW MO-FI?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?! The new mo-fi is exactly that . It's Mo-fi in name only.Music Direct purchased the name. The product must stand on it's own merits. It is a new company . It's not Mobile Fidelity.

Thanks for clearing that up! I knew it was too good to be true.

Exactly. We'll see what kind of quality control, mastering standards, etc. that the New MOFI has. Remember that DCC is much more consistant in terms of sound and product quality that the old MOFI ever was.

For example, if I pick up a MOFI, I find myself hoping that it's "one of the good ones". I avoid the UD2's if I can. If I pick up a DCC, I have no such qualms whatsoever! I *know* that it'll be the best mastering on the planet! Heck, I even picked up Judy Garland at Carnagie Hall because it was a DCC. I just had vague recollections that she sang but Ithought if Steve Hoffman remastered it, it must be OK. Guess what? I am now a Judy fan! :D

No doubt Gary. I have really been impressed with the DCC discs. You just can't go wrong with them, I wish I had more of them. I wonder if the new MOFI is nothing more than different people just using the name of a respected company! It will be interesting to see.

I am new here, am I to understand that DCC is out of buisness as of earlier this year?

Agreed...thiese are really nice cases. I got one with a new MoFi release. I did notice that on the 'spindle' part of the case that it has the SACD logo embossed on it. Are these cases possibly made for SACD? Any regular CD would fit obviously but the redbook cases used to have the 'compact digital audio' logo.

I agree with the fact that Music Direct did buy the name but appearently they bought the technology and transport equipment along with the title. Therefore I don't see the problem with being 'new'.

I may be uninformed but I feel that if, and I do hope it does happen soon, DCC reopens that it will not be 'the same company' either. It will be the 'new' DCC.

As I stated in another post lately...if we claim to be audiophiles we ought to support the 'new' MoFi and the 'new' DCC (when that happens). It's not a matter of who has your favorite titles or which company is better. It's a matter of better product available to us that doesn't exist otherwise.

Fair enough Alex, I agree that we should support them. I did not know about Music Direct buying the equipment and technology as well as the title.

Is the new MoFi you reference available to the public now? I would be interested in details about the release!

If new means no Steve Hoffman, and no old titles ,I'm not interesed.

I have all the old titles and would definitely like to see some NEW S.H. mastered titles (as gold CDs and hybrid SACDs)!

THis is true. Their intent is to release NEW product, not reissues like before.

But the new Mofi has already reissued an old (relatively speaking) Patricia Barber title.

Grant, if this is true then this changes everything for me as well. I thought that I read somewhere that they were going to issue new and old music in SACD format using the MoFi UHR and Ultradisc technology.

I have to say that Patricia Barbara's CDs are not new, they are all reissues...

Cafe Blue (1994)
Modern Cool (1998)
Nightclub (2000)

So I don't know how that fit's with the new scheme. If you are refering to releasing 1950s-80s music like the old DCC & MoFi then that's a different story.

I still believe they deserve support until proven otherwise...

Martini...don't you think this is a rather unbalanced statement? I am sure that Steve has a few MoFi's in his private collection as well. It's okay to own a few of the good ones even though DCC (Hoffman) might have produced a better product. That's not the issue.

Related to DCC packaging...
For all you anal collectors out there..how do you keep your DCC gold's? Do you put the booklet inside the jewel case, or keep it outside of the case inside the slipcover, so that the actual CD itself is visable through the die-cut slipcover, like they are in the store?

I put the book in the jewel case like other CD's, even though it makes the "view" through the window of the slipcase a bit odd.

(I guess by actually answering your question sent out to "anal" collectors, this makes me one of them).
