I've been enjoying this set since I got it last December. Every episode has been a pleasure to watch. Last night I finally came across an audio source/mastering problem on the set. The audio on the episode 'The £50,000 Breakfest' is out of phase ('67 DVD Vol. 7). Whoosing, warble, etc. I read that there was a problem like this on one of the first runs of an episode of 'The Prisoner' (and it was corrected). I wonder if this was an accident during the DVD production or is this the best source for the actual episode? Anyway, I love this set despite this newly discovered glitch. Steve, does your set have this audio problem for this episode?

My set has the problem, and to the best of my knowledge they never fixed it (unlike 'The Prisoner').

What you are hearing is a 5:1 mix collapsed to mono. You are hearing the out of phase background efx folded in to the mix. They (I guess) did a couple in surround but then changed their mind and instead of going back to the mag, they just folded in the mix they made, with disastrous results.

You'll notice the weirdness is only when they are outside or when there is "background noise".

Drives me batty and I'm at least glad they only did it on a few.....

Maybe A&E isn't aware of the problem? I know they got billions of e-mails about 'The Prisoner' glitch. Anyway, despite this it's a damn good set. I just ordered (during the DDD sale) all of the Honor Blackman episodes. I wonder if they will ever release the earlier shows or if they even still exist?

This is what happens when they try and get "fancy" with vintage audio. It also proves they have the separate voice/music/efx mag tracks and could do a really good remix if they wanted to; mono of course.

Thanks for the explanation. Yes, the background noise of the wind howling and the constant wobbly typwriter effects sent me to pour a drink.... :)

I totally agree! It would've been nice if they did concentrate on remixing the elements for mono. Oh, well....
