I've just finished listening to DCC's Golden Age of Underground Radio (Feat. Tom Donahue). My favorite track is Darkness, Darkness by the Youngbloods. I know very little about this short lived band or what is available on CD (or LP, for that matter!).

Can anyone recommend a good sounding CD or two?

Thanks!

Actually I think that Elephant Mountain was the only MFSL CD by the Youngbloods. It has Darkness Darkness on it and is generally regarded as their best album. The only verison of this album on CD I've heard is the MFSL silver, but Edsel and maybe another import is available. Next week is the release date for an RCA years compliation that will include Elephant Mountain material as well as some earlier hits: Grizzly Bear and their classic version of Get Together. They put out a few albums on Warner Bros/Racoon (Good And Dusty with the 'answer song' Hippie From Olema was one).

Yeah, the EDSEL "ELPHANT MTN" is pretty good. Got it while I was on vacation last year at alittle record store in Monterey.

Gary,

If you like the song "Darkness, Darkness", then you should hear Mott The Hoople's version, which is on their "Brain Capers" LP. As much as I like the original version by The Youngbloods, Mott's version, with Mick Ralphs handling the lead vocals, is still my favorite.

You may want to try the Youngbloods Euphoria 1965-1969 on Raven. Great compilation. It's on sale at CDNow.
