Got an undeniably insatiable jones for the extremely very rare DCC Compact Classics reissue of Highway 61 Revisited? Do you have 2.2 Benjamins burning a hole in your pocket? Take a look at this 61 for big bucks (
http://www6.gemm.com/c/search.pl?sid=300065323&key=58454&referred_by=52STJAZZ&a_refno=GML12273862) and enjoy the moment.
By the way, I wonder if Bose, the "Better sound through advertising" company, will come after me for my use of "2.2" in this post. Bose is very protective of its patents and trademarks. In fact they do list the cases they have won on infringements. Thiel was smacked hard when there third generation 2.0 was named 2.2. Later, Bose forced them to change the name. Thiel chose to remove the decimal point.

I bought the new claimed to be remaster digipack from Sony, pressed in Austria. Then a friend sent me a CD-R of Mr. Hoffman's effort and I have the Sundazed mono release. The digipack is the same old stuff around for years and it just does not have the sound. Mr. Hoffman and Sundazed got it right.
Music Direct has it priced a $125 up from $49.99 a couple months ago when I was still buying from them.
Fuggedaboutit!
Seen regularly on eBay from $50 to $100 - no higher.
Sometimes lower (you gotz 2 b diligent!)

$49.00, I feel blessed!;)
Sorta off the subject a bit, but I've seen three of these and all three had Made in Japan printed on the disc. Was this title ever printed once DCC moved production to the US? Just wonderin'.

When I read things like this, it makes me really glad that I was buying DCC and MoFi gold discs all along, and didn't wait until the prices sky-rocketed. Got quite a few bargains over the years, too. ($15 for a sealed Highway 61--sorry, just couldn't help gloating!:D )

I paid 75.00 for Highway and 55.00 for Elvis' 24 Karat Hits, both sealed. Don't think I'd go that high again for much of anything else. Unless, Dcc or S+P released the catalog of a certain Fab Four, with both mono and stereo mixes. I guess I just figured Dylan + Presley wouldn't show up again in Steve's corner of the world again for a long time, and bit the bullet on those two.
Seems like prices for DCC stuff has gone up a lot in the past six months.

Excuse me, pardon me..., as he pushes his way into the gloating circle. I got my Highway 61 used in perfect shape for about $5.00 US.;)
Yeah it's a cryin' shame that the prices on DCC's and MFSL's have gone through the roof over the last 6 months.:(
Hi all,
Sorry to dig up an old one, but I'm pretty pumped as I just scored a DCC Hwy 61 for $52.00 on eBay. Its more than I've ever paid for a CD, but I've been longing for this one and I know Steve's efforts or worth it.
I know this might be the best version ever released of this album, so snatch one up while you can!

Gort, please delete this message. I can't
Anyone heard anything about Sony doing an SACD version of H61 like they did of Blonde on Blonde?
Ray
Ray,
Over 2 years ago, Sony made a big hub-bub about re-releasing Dylan's back catalog. They said they were in the process of remastering, but I didn't think it would take this long. They also said something about deleting "Plant Waves" and "Self Portrait". Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm not holding my breath for more Dylan SACDs. Sony has had plenty of time to release them. I'll be content with Steve's version of Hwy 61 for the time being.

I agree that one should not get too excited and anticipate more Dylan on SACD, given that no information has come out of Sony. But without any shadow of a doubt, Dylan will come out on SACD. Sony know they are sitting on a gold mine with Bob's stuff and they will appear.

Geoff

If they (Sony) are smart, they'll take a clue from the success of the Stones reissue marketing plan.
I received my monthly catalog from Collector's Choice yesterday with the Sones on the Cover and a full page dedicated to the new reissues, but with very little print space having been given to SACD. Sorry to say, but THIS is the way you market SACD to the public: you tell them it's there but you don't need to use it if you don't want to. Even their web site makes no mention of these being SACDs:

Of course, a similar strategy for Dylan would work quite well, but obviously Sony would need to start pressing hybrid disks.

Hmmm....six months eh....not much less than the time we all started drooling over these discs very publically at stevehoffman.tv. Maybe we're the cause AND the suckers!? ;-)

Sony Music finally convinced Bob to let them release remastered expanded versions of several albums: Freewheeln", etc. Bob started doing revised notes for that release and then decided to expand that into a major book release. This put all the remastered releases on hold. Now that his little boys new album is set and the book is done, and his film is in the can, expect to see some material for the holiday buying season (unless Bob decides to change his mind again). Have not heard anything about additional SACD releases.

$220? Unbelievable. It's not even a sealed copy. That's a rip-off, plain and simple.

I know a guy who has this and the Sundazed mono. He prefers the Sundazed... same price too.
