Well boys,
I am no fan of spacey anything! never seen the old star wars or anything like it. but I was dragged (physically!) to The Cronicals of Riddick last night. I have never seen the pre-qual (Pitch Black) and I have to say the movie was GREAT!
I thought the story was good, and Vin Diesel was excellent.. He got HUGE for the movie. Has anyone else seen it? any reviews?
I think the fighting scenes were very well done, and the chick in it kicked @$$.
Pickel gives :edthumbs:
Pickle, I moved this to "Visual Arts" as you can see. :)

Are you folks serious? It was fun (mostly had fun making fun of it). Just a B movie with a nice budget.

Totally :agree: :D
Pitch Black has been a Smash Success on Video and DVD hence people wanted more or the character or RIDDICK. Seems to work well for fans of this genre!
Well I wish more people who liked the Riddick character went to see the new film. Unfortunately, it's turning out to be a big flop...

The question remains....is Vin Diesel a star?
Hollywood has been trying like mad to make him into the next action star but it doesn't look like it will work.
He could end up quickly becoming a "direct to video" star real soon.
"Riddick" is the kind of movie I look forward to hearing in my HT when it arrives on DVD.

My opinion... no. this is the first film I have liked him in to be honest. Fast and furious was cheesy to me. He is a hottie (from a chicks perspective) *Blank* what other films has he been in?

Oh ya... the ending they left it very open for another film... A Trillogy in the works?

Sorry to be a contrarian, but I didn't like Riddick at all. Confused plot, unlikeable characters, bad acting. The Necromongers were basically the Borg without the implants. That whole prison planet subplot has been done to death. Judi Dench's Elemental seemed awfully similar to Obi-Wan. Does Riddick need those sunglasses, or not?
Based on the disappointing box office numbers, I'd be surprised if the studio financed another sequel. (But I'd see it if they did, anyway.)

I think the Studio made the big mistake in not just having Riddick in a Pitch Black 2 IMHO I think people who loved the first movie would have gone to see it at theaters.
Most people don't understand the name "Riddick" as Vin Diesel's character with the cool eye's from Pitch Black. This is why it will more than likely do better when it comes on DVD and gets rented or bought at the video stores or your favorite place to do business with. :)

Check him out in a movie that he had a small but cool part as a stock broker in "BOILER ROOM". :D

Vin is better as a character actor like in "Boiler Room" or "Saving Private Ryan". He does have a presence. But once he begins speaking too much ...its oh boy! time. :D

In Pitch Black , I rooted for the life forms because the characters were so inept...

Pitch Black was a fun little horror flick.
Riddick, I believe, was supposed to be a trilogy if the first one is successful (this is how the original Star Wars trilogy was structured as well).
Yes, Riddick does need the sunglasses- too much light hurts his eyes, but he sees in the dark without the shades. IIRC, it was his punishment (that he should never see daylight again) in some prison. I think the prison blinded him and he found some guy to do an operation that gave them so special eyes. Jack (or Keira, whatever) wants them real bad, though I'm not really sure why- they're not that much of an advantage. Her whole character was messed up, anyway- there's no good reason she couldn't go off and have some normal life somewhere after the events of Pitch Black.
Is Vin a star? I don't know- he hasn't been any movies that were both really big and decent. The one's he's famous for are cheesy- Fast and Furious, Riddick. The smaller ones have their fans but wouldn't make him a household name- Boiler Room, Pitch Black. And then there's crap like xXx.
As odd as this sounds, I think he's a worse actor than Arnold. As goofy as the Governator was, at least he had a certain charm and likeability in addition to his muscles. I just don't see that in Vin. He's about the same as Sly Stone, but Sly was lucky enough to star in one of the most iconic films every made (Rocky).

If it is a flop, it's certainly not due to a lack of promotion. My wife was starting to get very annoyed all of the Riddick trailers we were seeing in the theater and on TV. I even saw a brief "product placement" for it in the Sci-Fi channel mini-series Five Days 'til Midnight.
