View Full Version : Which Three Stooges On DVD?
I know that the poor state of the Three Stooges DVD catalog has been discussed before on the Forum but I was wondering what is the recommended collection to buy? I have seen this one on Amazon that looks pretty good:
The Three Stooges DVD Collection (Curly Classics / Spook Louder / All the World's a Stooge) (2000)
see larger picture
List Price: $50.95
Price: $45.86 & This item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping. See details.
You Save: $5.09 (10%)

Any other thoughts. I have also seen a 10 DVD set on ebay for about $100. I love the stooges but am not looking for an exhaustive collection but rather something to satisfy my hunger for some great stooges comedy every once in a while.
Thoughts?!?

Well, I own Curly Classics and I like it reasonably well. I don't recall there being any particular extras to sweeten the deal, but the shorts all looked good and sounded fine. Like you say, it satisfies my need for some Stooges comedy every once in a while. So, I imagine the box would be okay as well. One thing I can tell you, is to avoid the Madacy Stooges disc, which is worse than mediocre VHS.
P.S. There's a new set coming out soon, if not already. It has the shorts presented in a "new and improved" colorization scheme AND original black & white. Check for details on dvdreview.com

I have a few Stooges and those 3 you listed are all pretty darn good. All The World's A Stooge has my favorite, Three Little Pirates, where Curly poses as the Maha.

I'm holding out until they put a real collection together. If we can have Designing Women & Mad About You DVD's, I think we could get complete sets of the 3 Stooges one of these days- year by year.

Does a studio control these, or did they end up in the public domain? Only because the DVD I have is what I'd call an "off-brand".

There are a handful of Stooges shorts that are public domain.

Columbia "forgot" to renew the copyright on one Curly and three Shemp Stooges shorts.
The Stooges are in need of a better line of DVD products. Two disc sets(each covering one year)would be the best way to go, IMO.

I've got SPOOKS and PARDON MY BACKFIRE in field sequential 3-D. Unknown generation dub, but not bad. I'd like to see them done from a closer source in 3-D. Same goes for a lot of classic 3-D stuff, but I don't think the industry, on the whole, cares much.

Pinknik, can you please list the company and matrix # for that 3 Stooges 3-D disk?
I'd like to get it.
