I've been tryin' to remember the name of the original album that the song Slow Ride came on originally, not the multitudes of re-issues it had.

Also is there a decent cd pressing of said album?

That would be "Fool For The City"!!!

Lonesome Dave...Rest In Peace! :(

I have lots of Foghat on vinyl and, though I haven't played them in some time, recalled the old Bearsville lps sounded fairly decent. I bought only one CD though, Best of Foghat (Rhino/Bearsville), and found it "lacking" in the sound department!

Anybody find any decent CDs out there?!

From the Clarification Department...Lonesome Dave Peverett was the lead singer...and he has unfortunately passed on! Sorry for the misread Dave!

Foghat Live has an excellent version of Slow Ride. Remember the days when a live performance could stretch a 4min. song to 15 min? Its quality is only okay.

No problem Pat, just didn't get it.:D

Yes Styemaster I remember both those days and that album, he says longing for the great old days.

Dang I must be gettin' old!:D

Pigmode,

She's legal isn't she?:D ;)

My wife's 12 years younger than me so I guess I should feel younger, but somehow not all the time (creak go the bones).:D

I would recommend the King Bisquit live which contains music from a couple of performances ('74 & '76). Also, I believe there are import two-fers (i.e., two albums on one CD) still available from BGO or Castle, and these are remastered. Note: I haven't heard any of these 2 on 1 releases so I can't gauge the quality of the remastering, but from previous experience with BGO (Beat Goes On Records, if they are indeed the one's behind these two-fers) these reissues should be better than previously available, at least on CD (i.e., sometimes a LOT better, with the possible exceptions of DCC and MoFi product on gold CD and/or 180 gram vinyl).

Good luck; these shouldn't be too hard to find at present! Note: Favorites of mine include "Energized", "Live", and "Fool for the City"; I don't believe any of these are doubled up together (Rock 'n' Roll is combined with Energized; I don't recall how the other two are packaged).

Didn't you notice how I was able to slip two reallys into two consecutive sentences?

Foghat... I like their boogie rock, particulary their record Stone Blue!

And you can get the long version of Slow Ride mastered by our own Steve Hoffman on the famed "Rock of the 70s" series.

I think he's convinced... Are you? :D

BTW... I remember Foghat, wouldn't mind seeing one of their better albums reissued. :)

Audiogirl,

Naw, I'm not convinced at all.

What I am convinced of though is that I'd sure like to be able to buy Fool For The City with Steves mastering. (sigh);)

Thanks Robert, regarding the import releases by Foghat. Anybody have these? How do they sound?

Yeah, if Steve were to do only ONE Foghat release...Fool For The City would be the best one to do. The Rhino (Best Of) release just isn't "right" to me.

Dave, I too am convinced that a "Hoffmanized" Fool For The City is a must have for my collection! :D

I have all of the original Rhino/Bearsville Foghat CDs as well as the (Castle?) 2-for-1 remasters. None of them are particularly thrilling; in fact, I prefer the versions that I crudely mastered from off-the-shelf vinyl for some albums (Boogie Motel in particular.) The new remasters at least have the advantage of covering Foghat's work from Boogie Motel on into the 80's, something that Rhino never got around to, IIRC. To my ears, the remasters are as good, if not better, than the original Rhinos, so buying them is probably as good as it gets, particularly from a value standpoint.

There are now several different live Foghat albums (The original Live, the King Biscuit, and one that has cuts from both. All from concerts in the same 2-year period, I think.) The King Biscuit sounds good for a live album, and the versions of the songs are as good as anything from the original "Live". Also has Driving Wheel live, IIRC.

Foghat had some bang-up albums in the 70's, but Fool For The City was my favorite. Stone Blue and Boogie Motel have some brilliant moments as well.

Being kind of a mellow guy," Third time lucky" is one of my favorite Foghat tunes.
