As far as I've been able to ascertain, the least expensive outlet selling this thing is a local independent store in town ($57.00). Has anyone seen a better price? Can't wait to get my fix!

Gad-Zooks! I can understand your suspicion about the set showing up at that price. If they mistakenly advertised it at $29.99, legally, they have to sell it at that price. Let us know what happens! I'm tempted to go with Deep Discount but there is a good chance it would be back ordered for weeks. For two more dollars, I can start watching it today. I think I will stop by today and support my local independent store. They really do have some great deals sometimes--better than the big box stores. They sold me the Freaks and Geeks set for $38.00. Best Buy's best price was $54.99.

Best prices online appear to be at DVDSoon.com (US$52.55 shipped) and at deepdiscountdvd.com (US$54.89 shipped). As for major brick and mortar retailers, Circuit City is carrying it for US$54.99.

Retail laws vary by state, but I doubt anyone's required to sell something at an incorrect price. Most retailers honor such errors as a matter of good will, but they're not legally obliged to honor honest mistakes. Stores can get into trouble if they repeatedly and intentionally misrepresent their goods, but word of mouth will usually kill a business enagaged in such practices before they get hauled into court.
Retail laws are written to protect retailers as well as customers. For example, at a store I worked at, customers would occassionally perform their own markdowns with a colored pen, and then attempt to intimidate a cashier into ringing the incorrect price, complaining that failure to do so was "false advertising." Thanks to the correct price law, we did not have to sell a $200 leather coat for $16.99.
It's probably a moot point. I suspect that in this instance, the retailer will sell the item at the advertised $29.99, even if it a mistake.

Best price WAS at BestBuy right after it got entered in the computer as pre-order. They had it for $26.00 as a pre-order in store. I bought two, which are now on their way to me.
In the meantime, BestBuy changed their pre-order price to a more reasonable $60 and THEN added a $20 BestBuy giftcard for all pre-orders...That brings my net price on the pre-order to $6.00. I think I can live with that. I may even have enough left over now for a crane shot.

I wanted my SCTV NOW so I picked it up at J&R in NYC for $54.99. Watched the first episode last night, was cracking up from the get-go--starts with "Hi-Q", a school quiz-show parody with "Alex Trabel" as the MC. Hilarious!

...just watching episode four. In "Lee Iacocca's Rock Concert", Rick Moranis portrays Ringo Starr making a debut with his "new band, Rings". The song (Cause You Know That You'll Always Be True--very funny and Rutles-esque) sounds to me like it features Ringo's actual drum break from Abbey Road. It looks like Moranis is playing the solo but it sounds exactly like Ringo's version. Does anyone know if they spliced in the Abbey Road version and, if so, wouldn't there be some sort copyright violation in doing that? Knowing how protective Apple is of anything Beatles related, they would never have OK'd this.

I just picked up my pre-ordered copy @ BlockBuster -- $29.99 as promised. Not quite as good as the aforementioned Best Buy deal for $6.00, but still vey nice.
Now, bring on the 3 seasons of the 30 minute show! :D

I asked for the "Best Price" on the SCTV box set...The 801 and kwadguy...you win! How did Blockbuster sell them for $29.99, even with a preorder? My guess is the only person who received a better deal on their SCTV box set is Joe Flaherty. :)
