View Full Version : DCC Ringo! vs. The Remaster?
I have a chance to pick up the DCC CD of Ringo! for a decent price. I already have the remastered label issue version...now...being non-biased ;) Is the DCC version that much better than the label remaster?
Thanks.
I dunno about the comparison but I'd by the DCC disc anyway. They are gettin to be in short supply.
RicP,
Buy it and if you don't like it I'll buy it from ya.;)

Ya beat me to it, Dave! I own this disc, but I'd gladly buy another copy!
Claviusb,
Yeah, first time ever bein' first.:D
I haven't had the pleasure of even hearing it yet, but that's not even a consideration being that I trust Steve to make it right.;)

The DCC "Ringo" is way better than the normal CD. I sold my standard one immediately after I got Steve's remaster. This isn't anything that you have to strain to hear, either. You can tell in 2 seconds that the gold disc is fuller, especially in the bass. When you A/B them, it's like there's nothing there on the standard issue.
Since I don't have anywhere to get this one for a good price, is it worth the $100 redtrumpet wants?

They are much cheaper than $100 on eBay. You don't have to buy the first one that comes along--you can wait until you get a good deal.
All depends on what $100 means to you, though.

GEEZ, NO!!!!!!!
DON'T PAY THAT KIND OF MONEY.
Please, I feel bad enough.
Use the money to feed your children or buy them clothes or something.
Maybe someone here can loan you a CD-R of it.

Sheesh.
I used to think that Red Trumpet was a pretty cool site, but lately they have gone off the deep end with some of their prices.
Where are they coming up with these ridiculous amounts? Don't they realize that, in many cases, their competitors are selling the same item for less than half (ex. DCC Wheels of Fire)?
What do they think is going to happen if they manage to get someone to pay that inflated price, then the buyer finds out later how much he overpaid? The words "repeat customer" do NOT come to mind...
Penny wise and pound foolish - dumb way to run a business.
Ok I won’t buy it. Just let me say self-control was never one of my strong suites
I got my DCC Ringo for a bit over $40.00 recently. On eBay. But I had to be patient..... they are harder to find even there!
A hundred dollars? Absolutely nuts!

I got mine used for $8.99 at CD Warehouse. You just to keep your eyes open. Good luck!

Ric at this point I would say if you can find reasonably priced copies and can afford it, buy up any DCC discs you can find. The sound quality and artwork reproduction on these discs is second to none (at least at the time of production) and if you really don't like a particular disc you can easily sell them on ebay or this forum. Hell, you might even make a few bucks.
Definitely get the DCC disc. If it's too tough to find, I'm sure someone here who has it will make a CD-R swap, but with a bit of patience, there's no reason you should be paying that much for it. Even DCC discs on ebay are beginning to float back down to earth; there was a time "Highway 61 Revisited" consistently sold for $60+. Now, it's easy to grab it for $30-40, sometimes unopened.
My resolve is starting to falter. I have to find one of these soon.:(

I would be glad to copy any cd that I have for the S/H forum members. I have most of the rare DCC/MF titles, including the Ringo. Just cover the shipping cost. I have the stand alone NAD recorder. Makes great copies.
Besides Ringo, what kind of MFSL/DCC titles do you have?
I would like to work out a trade (or if I don't have anything you want, just pay for the CD-R).
You can send me a private message and we can continue this discussion via e-mail.

Yeeeouch, $100.00 bucks!.... Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt to hang around e-bay and see if you can make out better than that... But if not... eh, I'd pay it.
I figure I'll play it at least 100 times... That's a buck a play. It's way worth it when you look at it that way! :p

Wow. I'd have to play about 8 CDs a day, every day, for an entire year just to get through my collection ONCE.
It's sobering and depressing to think that I have dozens, maybe hundreds of CDs in my collection that I won't find the time to listen to more than a few times before I die.
The problem is that I keep on buying the damn things! I can't stop...do I need help? This can't be normal, can it?
Life is too short, I guess...

Dob... Don't stress it bud! :( Just shoot for 4 CD's a day. And listen to the ones you really like a couple of times... :)
Don't worry about buying more and more... and more.
Uh, we all do it! You're in good company and WE, here at the SH forum, WE support you 100% :D :D :D
Eh, I think you're pretty normal, Dob!
You COULD use a few MORE CD's, though........ ;)

I don't think it's abnormal, at least among the kind of folks who hang around in this forum.
I realized some months back that I had to stop buying CDs (excepting only the most essential stuff), and scale back my collection as it stood (approaching 2000 ... not many compared to some here, I'm sure, but too many for my taste, inclinations and available space). I've slowly been selling 'em off, trying to get down to a more reasonable number and purifying my collection in the process. There were discs I just knew I'd probably never listen to again, so ... off they've gone.
I still do occasional CD-R trading, though, but not nearly as much as I used to ...

Jeff...
I fully support getting rid of stuff you will NEVER listen too.
We could all go through our collections and pull out some duds. I can think of a few off hand... Picked 'em up thinking oooohh, then I heard them.  Yuck!! "I'll never play that again."
I should have tossed it right then. Now it is lost somewhere in the stacks. There are a few of those in everyone's collection.
Anyone want to buy some earbleeders? :D

Oh, so you think I'm normal, huh? Well, maybe you'll change your mind after reading this...
When I buy new music (whether brand new or just new to me), I will listen to it 5 times, even if I find Ihate it. I have found that with music that is "difficult", sometimes you have to bear with it before it begins to grow on you (5 times seems to work for me). And, even if I'm absolutely positive that I will hate it now and forever, I will still force myself to listen to it those 5 times. Why? Maybe I'm punishing myself for being so STUPID for buying it in the first place!
Does that sound normal to you, or does it sound like behavior that one should be concerned about?
The Incredible String Band's "The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter" (which got 5 out of 5 stars in the Rolling Stone Record Guide) was the toughest one to get through those 5 times. The microtonalities on that album just sound like off key playing/singing to me. Sheer torture...
