Does anyone know of problems experienced with the pioneer elite
pdr-99 compact disc recorder. This one seems to leave out small patches of data
that stops lesser players or causes noisy skips. I'm trying to decide wether to trash
it or send it in. A friend gave it to me and had it checked out somewhat superficaily
at a dealer and they could find nothing wrong. Any similar experiences out there?

I have the same recorder (I won't even mention how much it cost when new!), and it has worked fine since purchase. I never had a drop out on a recording. Maybe you should send it in and have it checked. It is actually a fine piece of equipment.

(It sold for $2000!)

Well, then

I guess it may be worth having it checked out. Is Pioneer easy to work with
regarding servicing: This is the first pioneer piece that I've owned.

It's actually best to get an authorized Pioneer service tech. to give it a look. But, if you're feeling brave, check out the laser transport. It sounds like it may have some dirt in the transport slider mechanism. Clean with isopropynol 99% (about a $1.50 at any pharmacy) and reapply lubricant, provided that it's already in there before cleaning. JMHO ;)
