Why is it the only music videos I ever see of 10cc are of the group after the departure of Godley/Creme?
Are there any concert videos around of the original foursome? Apparently they didn't have a very goup live reputation at the outset. I recall reading some critical reviews in the english press. Attempting to do too much on stage etc.
Was anyone lucky enough to see them in concert. I'd be interested to know which member appeared to "lead" the group on stage, Lol or Eric?
I saw the "5cc" version in Australia around the time of Deceptive Bends. Album perfect versions of the hits (Eric's and Graham's at least) but pretty disappointing and lifeless.

peter: I saw the original 10cc in Ottawa in 1975 during the tour for The Original Soundtrack. I am sorry to say that I was disappointed, especially with the sound quality, but in retrospect I realize that it was virtually impossible for four people to reproduce all their musical contributions from The Original Soundtrack live on stage. Lol Creme was the most verbal and most humorous but it seemed to be an equal partnership. The second version of 10cc (which I saw in 1978) had about eight members and the sound was better but alas, musically their best days were behind them at that point.
The ironic thing was that the opening band (for the 1975 concert) was an unknown Canadian band, and they blew 10cc off the stage musically and sonically. In the audience that night were two Phonogram reps (10cc's label) who were so impressed that they went backstage after the gig and signed this band to a contact.

Beagle,
You've whetted our appetites. Do you remember who that opening band was?

I would guess Rush, but the timing is a little off. Their 1st LP came out in 1974. And would Rush open for 10cc?
Why not? They opened for Nazareth in 1975.;)

I doubt that any of the Americans (and only a few Canadians) have ever heard of the band. Can any of the Canadians here guess who they were?
Hint: They made four musical and sonic gems and share the name of a famous cat.

I worked at 10cc's U.S. label during their tenure at the company, and I believe there were no videos for either the "Soundtrack" or the "How Dare You" albums. While acts at that time did videos for the U.K., normally the British record company furnished copies to their U.S. affiliate. I don't remember any crossing the video machine. Of course, there may have been videos for the two pre-"Original Soundtrack" albums on U.K. Records, but I've never seen any.
And Beagle was right about the "Soundtrack" tour. I saw a couple of shows (I think Montreal and Chicago, but who knows) and neither was particularly stellar musically, although both were funny because Lol and Kevin were funny guys. I believe a 20- or 30-minute excerpt of the Montreal show was recorded for airing on King Biscuit Flower Hour in the States. I think the band did some re-recording for the show, but I could be wrong.
Beagle, could the opening act have been either Moxy or Max Webster? Maybe Goddo? I'm racking my brain trying to remember mid-70's Canadian bands, but those are the only ones that immediately spring to mind. Other than Klaatu, of course, but I don't think did concerts and they weren't on Phongram. You're right, it couldn't have been Rush, since they were signed to the U.S. and the world (ex-Canada) by Phonogram in 1974. I still remember that absolutely HORRIBLE Canadian pressing of their first LP on Moon Records. Every copy sent to Phonogram in the U.S. had a skip at the same point ("What You're Doing"?).

Possibly Sylvester or Morris?

10CC didn't have any produced promotional videos (not counting Godley/Creme's "CRY" and videos they produced themselves), but I beleieve they did appear on something like "Midnight Special" and a performance of "I'm Not In Love" was done with overlapping camera shot-mixing, a trick of the time. I've seen this video show up on VH1's "8 Track Flashback" I think....
Memory serves saying the single edit wasn't used, but one that DID include the "pretty boys don't cry" phrase, yet somewhat of a different edit used for this shoot. It was recorded to video tape, live, with synch.
Am I the only person who's seen it? ;)

Was the band "Garfield"? I remember seeing some Canadian import LPs from this band when I worked at used record stores in the late '70's and early '80's.

Yes indeed, it was Garfield. A wonderful live performance and 4 fine albums. Their sound was folk based with progressive rock flavourings and great production (imagine folk/rock singer songwriter with Tull/Genesis production/instrumentation and arrangements. Lead singer had a very emotional voice that could give you goosebumps at times.
