Just saw a boxed set - 3 CDs - made in '89, black cover, with booklet. The record label is "Special" something-or-the-other. I think my memory's going........ :(

Anyway does anyone have this? Is it worth getting? I don't have ANY LR! :o

Thanks........... :D

Gary,

A LR Box Set on "Specialty"--his original label? The Speciality Records compilation box set that I have sounds pretty good on his recordings!

I picked that set up a few years ago. The sound is as good as it is gonna get and there are some interesting alternative versions, commercials and studio talk. It probably is all the Little Richard anyone will ever need and might verge a bit on overkill but....... steve

The U.S. version is three discs. If you really love Little Richard, seek out the U.K. version which is six discs (contains all the material on the U.S. three disc version plus another three discs of outtakes, alternate takes and demos).

I used to have the Specialty box but I sold it after determining that The Georgia Peach & Shag on down to the Union Hall (companion CDs both on Specialty) had everything from the box I wanted.
The Specialty box proved to be a difficult listen because of all the studio chatter, false takes and repeated songs.
The Georgia Peach & SODTTUH CDs have same mastering as the box set, about 24 songs each, no chatter, and to me are a much more satisfying listen.
If you need everything, however, the UK box may be the way to go.
