It was Jimmy Fallon's last show. D'oh! Gosh, he and Tina Fey had great chemistry on the "Weekend Update" segments. Now, who's gonna replace him at the news desk? The last skit of the show was great, it was a homage to Grease's "Summer Loving."

I saw some of it, including "Weekend Update". I was very surprised to hear him announce his last show. Was this a known fact he was leaving? Great, strong member of the cast.

I'd heard that he was thinking of leaving, but it was also a surprise anyway when he mentioned it on Weekend Update.
I personally think Tina Fey should do the Update alone after this. It'll be hard to get that kind of chemistry again, and I think she can hold her own.
It was a great run for Jimmy! Sad to see him go.

It's too bad... I think Jimmy is the most entertaining part of the current SNL cast (Tina Fey is entertaining, but of course tends to keep to the background except for WU)...

Some of the new cast member show major potential. Will Forte for one. Everything he does seems to really shine. Fred Armisen is also very solid, but for some reason he's still just a "featured player".
As long as the writing stays strong (thanks mostly to Fey) I think the current cast can do some great stuff.

Agreed. It'll still be a good show... way better than some other eras.

But Jimmy was my favorite. I always laughed at his acting in his sketches, even if the sketches themselves weren't funny. I can't say the same for many other players...

I wonder where we'll see him next...

I wonder where we'll see him next...
Later this year, he will be starring opposite Queen Latifah in the 20th Century Fox film "Taxi". It's based on a story by Luc Besson, and is directed by Tim Story, who made Barbershop.

He was pretty good in "Almost Famous". A lot of people did not even realize it was him.

I thought you were soliciting opinions on the extremely disturbing-looking Olson twins.

I was flipping channels and happened upon this edition of Biography (credits read 2002) late last night. Very well done, I believe it was 2 hours but I was so engrossed in the program I couldn't tell! Here's the link:
http://www.biography.com/snl/#

The episode was a hybrid shuffle mix of the history of SNL, interviews, and a look into the "week in the life" of a 2002 SNL production, in which the guest host was Gwyneth Paltrow. So Kris Kattan, Tim Meadows, Anna Gasteyer, Tracy Morgan and Will Farrell (and a few others I think) were still in it. Awesome!

Most reveling moment 2002 #1: When they interviwed Jimmy Fallon re: "Update," he said when he bombs, he always has Tina to back him up. Looking back now, it's kind a hard to see the magic go. (Hey, maybe they can recruit Dan Aykroyd for the the first episode next season!)

Most revealing moment 2002 #2: Dean Edwards had developed a skit for himself playing Michael Jackson. He played the role to hilt but his skit ended being cut, due to the awesome makeup job in which made it look all too real...something about a cardinal rule about not having cast members unrecongizable when performing other people?

Most revealing moment 2002 #3: During the table idea reads on through production, both writers and performers were always playing pocker faces to reveal what ideas had the most laugh appeal. (Stroking the ol' ego...)

Most revealing moment #4: Back in 1975/6, Al Franken was playing a role in a skit that would have been played by Belushi.

There was more, of course, but those were the moments that stood out most in my mind.

I bet anything that Fred Armisen will NOT be a "featured player" next season. He's hilarious. I think he might be the next big star to come out of SNL.

As for Tina, now that she's getting great notices for writing "Mean Girls," I'll also bet that ten years from now she'll be directing. She's the thinking man's hot babe...smart and funny.
