Note: you can vote for *multple* items!

In another thread on the old board Steve said that Herb needs some convincing that it'd be worthwhile to reissue these titles. Lets see what kind of demand there'd be for a rerelease (CD? SACD? LP?). And of course, we'd want Steve to do the mastering!

After voting, please post a note telling what format you'd like to see them in.

(personally, I'd like to see them on SACD and LP)

LP and SACD, both two channel and multi-channel!

Steve, is that your friend Hal Blaine on drums on "A Taste Of Honey"? Amazing brush work!

Whipped Cream on Lp definitely. I just dug up a mono of this that I got at a garage sale a year or so ago.
Just straight ahead feel good music. Reminds me of some long ago summertime.

Angel, that is indeed Hal Blaine playing drums on "A Taste Of Honey". In fact, on all of the songs on that album, and several other TJB albums.

Next time you listen to "A Taste Of Honey", just play the left channel and listen to Hal's great brush work, and how he interacts with Lyle Ritz's bass part. Great duo. Those kick drum thumps at the start of each fast part was Hal's way of counting off the sections. Herb Alpert liked the kick drum so much that he left it on the record.

Neat, eh? I love stories like that ;)

Since none of the original Herb Alpert & the TJB albums are currently available in any format... I vote that they be released in ALL formats!

Vinyl for us die hards... SACD/DVD-A for us die hards when we want the best sound we can get but can't play the vinyl... Gold CD for those of us not ready to pop for an SACD/DVD-A player or are satisfied with our CD setup... regular Aluminum for the rest of the world...
and those that want a casual listen...

Since I am assuming that Steve is mastering these, even the aluminum will work. (in my case, a good option for the car. :D )

I double-ditto audiogirl, all formats for everyone. Happy music for the masses! This music just flows over you - some of the most non-conventional pop music ever made. Jeez - a "Mexican" flavored band that made you want to break dishes while dancing to Zorba! Something very special - and very overlooked happened between 1962 - 1970.

Steve,

I will buy whatever Herb Alpert and the TJB you decide to release.

How about a "best of", too?

A full-blown reissue campaign with Herb's blessings would be great! All of the original TJB albums either as two-fers or singles with rare bonus tracks such as outtakes or mono single mixes, topped off with a 2-disc anthology, all mastered by Steve. Naturally, these releases should be hybrid SACD's. If you can do straight 3-track transfers into the multichannel layer, Steve, I think we'd all love it. Hopefully you can talk Herb into this with Larry Levine's help!:D

Hybrid SACD, please. The best of both worlds. I can play them now and play them later (when I get a SACD machine!)

Steve, I remember you posting that you did not get the "right sound" from the "CD" portion of the hybrid SACD, although the SACD portion was fine. Because of this, you were still going to release gold discs.

Did you solve this problem yet? Will you release SACD hybrids?

And tell Herb that there are a lot of people who still love him and his music, OK? Lots of fond, warm & happy childhood memories for me, thanks to Herb!

...... and it's not just because of that whipped cream cover, either ;) :D ;) . You WILL still faithfully reproduce the cover, won't you?

On second thought, a nice 12" LP cover seems more appealing! ;)

LOL!

The model (Dolores Erickson) lives just down I5 from here. Here's a "where are they now" article on her:

Neat, eh? I love stories like that ;) That is truly amazing!

It's hard to imagine the song without those propulsive effects!!

What a great story!

AS a trumpet player, the TJB was what orininally got me started playing trumpet. I'd really like to see them done on lp and cd (gold or aluminum). By the Bob findley played trumpet with Herb, a great player!

(just a note for those of you who are confused why this post keeps going to the top: a Poll (which this thread is) will pop up to the top every time someone votes, even if they don't post an actual message)

Well, that explains alot! I was wondering on the CCR poll, why an OLD posting date was appearing ahead of more current posts on the Music Forum. I thought I was missing something. Thanks for the "heads up" HZ!!!

Herb Alpert has been one of my faves since I was a little kid! (I am now 41) I have several of his albums on vinyl but they are pretty worn now. ANY regular CD or DVD-A version would be great as long as Steve remasters them. It would also be nice (since the albums are about 30 minutes or so each) if both the stereo AND mono versions could be included.

Thanks Bob

Do 'em all Steve.

All formats are fine as long as we have gold CD's and LP's.

My wife wants 'em out too!
