Hey Steve- Have you read The Box: An Oral History of TV 1920-61 by Jeff Kisselloff?
It's a great read if you are interested in early TV- which I know you are. The author interviewed 100's of people. Lots of great stories from the "Golden Age."
I'm up to the Western era of TV and just finished reading about Rin Tin Tin. The dog who acted was actually an accomplished dog actor named Flame. Rin Tin Tin would only be used for running scenes and another dog would be used for the attack scenes. This book rules!
