I keep seeing that live Monkees DVD at Best Buy, but haven't broke down to buy it yet. Does anyone have it? How is it? It's a show from a few years ago, right?

Does it show Mickey and Davey playing guitars? I saw the three of them perform live on the.....Today Show, I think, to promote their reunion album 'Justus.' Doggone it, Davey Jones played rhythm guitar on the song 'You and I,' and I was highly impressed that he was playing barre chords.

I'm interested in getting this DVD if Davey and Mickey play guitar on it, but not so much if it's just them standing around with a ton of back-up musicians. Is that weird?

Anyway, came anyone give a brief review of this DVD?

OK. Sorry to push this sucker back to the top, but it never got a response. Does anyone out there have this DVD? Any comments are greatly appreciated. :)

Well, if the guitar playing is the deciding factor on this one for you, then yes, Micky and Davy do play guitars from time to time here.

The problem I had with this DVD was the whole "Vegasy" feel it had to it. These guys are just too old to be doing this, and it looked kind of creepy to me. It was still fun watching them perform back in the 80's when they were in their 40's and still had some youth left, but pushing sixty, it just looks like touring to make a buck. Also, the band sounds a bit to canned, and the dancing horn section gets irritating after about twenty seconds.

The disc is interesting as it represents Peter Tork's final performance with the three man Monkees. He'd announced his intentions to not join Micky and Davy on a European tour later that year, and their reaction was to fire him right after the filming of this show was completed. Micky and Davy have only toured as a duo since.

Keep in mind, I'm as big a fan of the Monkees as you'll find here on the forum. It feels very weird for me to diss anything Monkees, but I was very disappointed with this DVD, and I soon got rid of my copy. You may feel differently, having seen the live show and enjoyed it, but that was the reaction I had to it.

Thanks for the response!

I guess if I wanted it that bad I would have picked it up by now. I think I'm going to pass on this one. I'll save my pennies instead for seasons 1 and 2 on DVD.

Which is exactly the way the Monkees should be remembered... :)
