I don't know about the rest of you, but I find myself consistently dismayed when troving through DCC/ MFSL gold discs on Ebay. How could anybody allow even the slightest scratch to grace one of these beauties under bellies??? Who are these scoundrels??? Why did the purchase the gold disc version in the first place??? Sacrilage I tell you!!!

...and we scratch our heads wondering why someone would spend $30 on audiophile CD's and not bother to take proper care of them??

Heck-
My Original Master I just bought looked as virgin as anything I'vve seen before, except for a small group of marks or scratches in a small area.
What about quality control before they are even unwrapped?

I guess it's possible afew can slip through QC. At least DCC's QC was not like that old luggage comercial with the apes...

Carl,
Interesting post.
Two years ago (right around the time of MOFI's demise) I went into a couple of Wherehouse music stores in the Seattle area. They had recently bought Blockbuster Music out, so I thought I'd check them out. What I found when I got there was breath taking and heart breaking.
They had tons and I mean TONS of used MOFI's stickered from $1.99 to $17.99. I thought I hit the goldmine ! However as I looked at some for inspection they were scratched to hell; actually most of them were. After spending all afternoon there I eventually found 12 different titles that were like new and scooped them up but SOOOO many of them were just trashed. If you check them out on Amazon's Marketplace you'll see them now selling them used for $30, but BEWARE these are probably from the same source. Also, their feedback sucks.
Just a waste...

Ed and gang,
I talked to Carl at music Direct about a year ago on this exact issue. What I was told is that the cd's came to Music Direct that way from MoFi.
Can you say disgruntled MoFi ex-employee's.;)

If that is indeed the case, I hope that -- once they depart this world -- they are forced to endure "remastered" (non-Steve/MFSL) music for all eternity.
Gold is indeed a precious commodity -- no matter the form! :D

You've got me worried Ed!
I've just ordered 2 used DCC CDs from wherehouse. Cars Greatest Hits and Roy Orbison's All Time Greatest Hits. They were both listed as condition "very good".
I hope their definition of very good corresponds with mine!
I buy these CDs to LISTEN to. I don't think of them as investments. I certainly won't be reselling them. So a few marks won't bother me as long as it doesn't affect play.
The first MoFi disc I bought was sold with a lift lock case. Before I opened the thing I didn't know that. For some reason the disc was not seated in the case just right, when I opened the lid it fell to the floor.
