This is great news...I'm counting the days!
The Munsters complete First Season, 38 Episodes is making it's debut on 8/24/04...
Here's the scoop...
Munsters Creep To DVD
A DVD set of the first season of the classic 1960s monster sitcom The Munsters is headed for DVD on Aug. 24, in time for its 40th anniversary, Universal Home Entertainment announced. The show, starring Fred Gwynne and Yvonne De Carlo, aired from 1964 to '66 on CBS and dealt with a family of wacky monsters and their seemingly normal niece. The DVD set will carry a suggested retail price of $59.98 and includes the previously unaired pilot episode, plus all 38 episodes from show's first season.
Universal Home Entertainment is owned by Vivendi Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.

Cool, Cool show!!! I loved it growing up. I will definately buy this. Didn't The Standells appear on an episode and perform?? There are so many really good episodes. Fred Gwynne was a genius in that show.
All time favorite episode, but I don't know which season it was from:
When Herman is horribly disfigured during one of Grandpa's experiments, and the 'grotesque' Herman is none other than Fred Gwynne without his make-up!

The Standells performed "I Want To Hold Your Hand"! and IIRC, a tune with "Ringo" in it?
...Ibity, bibity Canal Boat;)

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they're putting "The Munsters" on DVD, but does anyone else find it odd that fun-but-lightweight shows like this one (and "Gilligan's Island", and "Three's Company") are gettng the full-season box set treatment while more critically acclaimed sitcoms ("Barney Miller", "Taxi", "Mary Tyler Moore" other than Season 1, both of Bob Newhart's classic shows) are ignored?

That's from the Second Season...
Episode #55...1/13/66..."Just Another Pretty Face". Hysterically funny!

Lightweight? The Munsters is one of the most popular shows in syndication...I can't agree with you on this one.:)
I see your point though, I see the shows you mention the same way:)

I suspect rights and royalties issues are in play as to why certain box sets are coming out and some haven't....the 2nd TWIN PEAKS box set is in hopeless limbo at this time, and given some of the junk that's been put out in box form, why a cool show like MIAMI VICE hasn't made it to DVD yet is baffling to me, as I'd pick 'em up in an, um, 'heartbeat'... ;)
But I, too, dug THE MUNSTERS, silly as it was...same with GILLIGAN, that box set is great fun if taken in small doses, which I also found to be true with GREEN ACRES, an unlikely choice for a box--it doesn't have GILLIGAN'S cult following, AFAIK--but still, most welcome.
Can we hope THE ADDAMS FAMILY is up next?:D

:agree: I'm with your Tim. Another great show that missing from the DVD format. I watched a few episodes during one of those marathons this past winter, on TBS, IIRC. Hilarious. I enjoy The Munsters, don't get me wrong, however The Addams Family, I liked a bit better.

Yaaaaay! This is great news! I loved the Munsters when I was a kid. I watched it every day after school.
Micheal, if we ever meet, we gotta get us a nice big screen, some munchies, and watch nothin' but 60s sitcoms.

I also watched the Munsters every day after school, on WPIX out of New York(followed by the Addams Family!). Great stuff. I always had a thing for Yvonne DeCarlo.

Ed, I'm sure your suspicion is correct as I recall reading quite awhile ago that this was another one held up indefinitely due to music rights licensing problems. Many of the most anticipated series (WKRP is another prime example) are delayed due to the same problem unfortunately.

It's about time,The Munsters was one of the best shows for me,Too bad they don't release the 2nd season too! I can't wait to see the one episode where Herman tries out for The L.A.Dodgers and that was in the first season. :edthumbs: :goodie:

Why Did Universal wait so long? Now I wonder if McHale's Navy will come out? They own that show too.

With only 2 Seasons. I'd say it's a shoe-in!
Also, with the upcoming 2 DVD Munster Set from Image (released the same day as the box set! 8/24), we're cookin!
Hopefully with Season 2, we'll have some commentary from the surviving cast members...
