Those are all great, some others:

Bob Newhart, The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart
Shelley Berman, Inside Shelley Berman
George Carlin, Class Clown
Bill Cosby, Wonderfulness
Richard Pryor, That ******'s Crazy
Bob & Ray, The Two and Only
Albert Brooks, Comedy Minus One
Lenny Bruce, Carnegie Hall Concert

Also, it's not standup but anything from the Firesign Theater will log frequent time on my CD player.

All the Lenny Bruce CD's are essential, as are all from The Firesign Theatre.

If you haven't heard any Minnie Pearl recordings, they are a must hear (yes most of her stuff is stand-up comedy), especially if you are a country fan like I am, and you'll find out why she became an institution to the Grand Ole Opry and country music and comedy for many years.

Woody Allen - Standup Comic

Very funny stuff.

There are a few of Minnie's comic bits on the 2-CD set 'Hank Williams Live at the Grand Ole Opry'. Most of them fell pretty flat on the nights that were included on the CDs, but she was a pro and rolled with it brilliantly. Even when the jokes didn't work, her honest charm pulled her through! I loved seeing her on Hee Haw when I was growing up.

Oh, let me add Steve Martin's 'Wild and Crazy Guy' to the lists:) .

I second that one! "The moose scored."

And, while it may not technically be stand-up, I recommend the Instant Monty Python CD Collection box set. Includes their comedy albums, the movie soundtracks, and the Live at Drury Lane concert LP (that last one sorta counts as stand-up). Ni!

I'm glad someone mentioned Bill Hicks. A legend, and unfortunately, a life cut short. The Caroline Monty Python discs, and the Reiner/Brooks 2000 Year Old Man (Rhino Box) is also high on my list.

The Woody Allen Standup Comic, I own only the Cassette still. Possibly one of the only cassettes I still listen to ;) "The Moose Was Furious!"

Gawd, yes, all the Firesign Theatre titles. Most of them are available again on CD. :)

You know, I have NEVER found this guy to be funny. Not his Rolling Stone interview. None of his movies. Nothing. I actually avoid movies with Steve Martin in them.

Strange, huh?

I guess I'm a sucker for stilly humor. Loony Toons, Sport Goofy, SpongeBob SquarePants, Steve Martin...no politics, no deep message or brilliant commentary on the human condition. Just silly!:D And good silly is harder to do than it looks.

Let me put in a vote for The Goons from England.

They were the precursers of Monty Python (and the "Beyond The Fringe" guys). All throughout the 1970's whenever I spoke to someone from England who was born in the 40's or early 50's, they always mentioned The Goons (Peter Sellars, Harry Secombe, and Spike Milligan [the well-known typographical error]) when the talk got around to Monty Python. I still remember walking into a record store in Chicago in the early 80's and finding 10 of the BBC reissues of their live radio shows. Bought 'em all for $50, and I'm still laughing, although I still don't get half of the references.

And let's not forget:

Freddie Prinze -- Looking Good
Whoopi Goldberg -- Original Broadway Cast (basically a stand-up act)
Any Mort Sahl from the 50's and 60's
Don Rickles -- Hello Dummy! (I know every word and I still crack up)

All this talk of comedy and no mention of Cheech & Chong's Wedding Album!? Was everyone asleep during the 70's?

Dave's not here man....

What a blessing that nobody has mentioned that Michael Fremer LP. Oops, I just did.

Another great one is Steven Wright: I Have a Pony, from about 1984. I don't think it's available on CD, and my LP is warped. But no problem -- my Grado will track it! ;)

Take it easy!

Robin Williams--Reality...What a Concept and Throbbing Python of Love. Neither has made it to CD, AFAIK.

I'll add Dennis Miller: The Off-White Album. Love the Smothers Brothers as well, have several of those Mercury LP's. I got a couple of Bob Newhart albums signed by the button-down mind himself and look forward to possibly getting Bill Cosby's sig on one of his LP's in the not too distant future.
