I really love this song:

click here for small mp3 file (http://www.swingteam.com/sh_shared/242.mp3)

It's sort of Peter Gunn-ish, Mancini/Lalo sounding. Got that hip, secret agent sound going for it.

I'm dying to find more (lots more!) like it, can anyone recommend anything?

Thanks!

Jeff

p.s. Bonus points to the person who can guess who it is! :)

HZ,

I also hear some surf guitar in there....sort of like Dick Dale plays the soundtrack to the new Austin Powers movie....

Bob ;)

Yeah, definitely!

I think it's that walking bass line that kinda skews it more towards a jazzy feel than you typically get with surf music.

It sounds quite close to the "Orange Symphonette" albums on Ryko to my ears. They've also done a "Mancini" album, I think.

Maybe Los Straitjackets, but I only hear one guitar not two.

It sounds like the Blue Hawaiians. I can post some mp3's in a newsgroup or e-mail them for your perusal

I have nooooo idea!

I wonder if HZ is playing a joke on us? Here's my guess:

It's an obscure but locally famous band called Holy Zoo!

Right? :D

Is it Mad Season? I found that they had kind of a alt-rock / jazz mix that fits that groove....couldn't be an off the wall AIC track?

My guess wasn't a guess. It's R.E.M.

Unfortunately, I don't think they ever did anything else very similar.

Yes indeed, he wasn't guessing. It's called "Rotary Ten" by REM, on their "Dead Letter Office" collection of b-sides.

And nope, they never did anything else in this style.

So, looks like I should check out Orange Symphonette, eh?
