Well next week is the final episode of the great sitcom FRIENDS, and they are already taking preorders for this episode on DVD, (I have ordered mine already). But the folks in the marketing department have figured out a way to extract more money from the buying public by telling us that this series finale will not be included on the series seasons sets, and the only way to own the series finale episode is to purchase this disc. Of course the disc itself is dirt cheap, but by telling us that they are not going to include this episode in the series seasons sets is akin to blackmail. Of course, the marketing department is also saying that this season finale DVD will only be sold for a limited time, so if anybody is interested in owning the entire series on DVD, they had better buy this disc now.

Ah, marketing. Who even knows whether these "warnings" will end up being true. If the series finale gets released later on in some other form, it won't be the first time that a supposedly "never to appear again" product is reissued. As you noted at least the dvd has a low list price, for those inclined to buy it. I think watching the finale on TV will be enough for me.

I guess the marketing folks would like us to believe that, when they release this entire season on DVD, they're going to intentionally omit the last episode? Sounds like a good way to torpedo sales to me. Will the box say "Complete last season" with an asterix to indicate *not including the last episode. I doubt it...

I'm sure they'll find some kind of gobbldeygook language that claims that the final episode was a "special" of some sort, and therefore, not a part of the regular season, thus the box will still be billed as "complete."

IMO, this is much ado about nothing. Jeez, the last show hasn't even aired yet!

This show "jumped the shark" when Chandler and Monica hitched; Without even seeing it, I know what's gonna happen: Ross and Rachel will get married, Joey will move to California, and the gang is gonna split up.

I just saved you all $20!

Are you sure about that, Evan? As I understand it, the series will end after Gunther (the barkeep at the coffee shop) snaps, and poisons the coffee of all the cheapskate friends that have taken up space in his shop but never tip. That is, all but Rachel, who Gunter will slip the "date drug" and cart off to his basement, where she will spend the rest of her days chained to a wall. What about Joey? He avoids the poison, but mistakenly thinks his friends are giving him the cold shoulder, and goes away to pout. Much of next season's spin off will focus on the hilarity that ensues when the authorities mistakenly assume he's responsible for their deaths and he becomes a fugitive of the law.

Yeah, you're right, probably too dark, but it's entertaining to imagine the scenarios, huh?

Great scenario, but it would turn out that Joey was ACTUALLY the culprit!

Don't watch this show but what a great idea for the production companies: Never show the last episode of ANY series and force people to buy it on DVD if they want to see the final episode at all.

Wow, I think I should send this idea to the networks!! :D

As I recall, that's how they ended Twin Peaks...:)

As I understand it, only the broadcast version of the final episode is exclusive to this DVD. The Season 10 set should include the extended version of the series finale, as is typical with the Friends DVD sets.

If they did that with 24, I'd be pissed!

ACK!

What they'll do is milk the final episode mania for all it's worth...does anybody wonder why the Friends Final Episode DVD hits stores five days after the airing of the episode??

They'll sell a gazillion of them, then, mysteriously, it will go out of print and sometime within the next year or so, the final season box set will come out and guess what? It will include the final episode!!

Don't believe them when they say it won't be part of the 10th season box set...can you say "marketing gimmick?"

ACK!

Or, in the case of a show like That '70s Show, never show any of the episodes anywhere and never, ever release them on DVD or any format.

Let me reiterate: The Season 10 set will include the extended version of the series finale, as is typical with the Friends DVD sets. Only the broadcast version of the series finale is exclusive to this set.

Well I saw the un-cut version of The Last Episode last night on DVD, but I was a little disappointed. The box of the DVD indicates that this disc is a 5.0 surround sound, but I did not see any audio options in the menu, and I only saw this in 2.0. But the un-cut episode was very funny.
