As if Enterprise didn't screw up the Trekverse's continuity enough...

I don't know about Star Trek but I bet some witty porn producer will come up with 'Fleet Academy' shortly after. :D

Well they need to get Neil Patrick Harris and Denise Richards on board, pronto!

Give it another couple of decades. "Star Trek: Ancient Earth Species". Where the film contains nothing but NASA footage of our moon landing, with voices overdubbed by the TNG cast.
I didn't think the last movie was all that bad. But, I see where the current TNG movie/cast/story lines have about dried up. Star Trek prequel? Bring it on!

To me, the Next Gen cast just lacked something that the original cast had in films, and I can't quite put my finger on it. I loved the Next Gen series, but if I've seen the films once or twice on DVD, I have no desire to see them again. Where I can watch the first six Star Trek films numerous times (yes, even Star Trek V :D ) and still enjoy them.
If they can keep things fresh (good cast, solid plot that's not recycled from a TV episode two years ago), a prequel would work out nicely. Otherwise... :shake:

The old cast: Shatner, Nimoy, Kelley. Three great actors.
The new cast: Stewart, Frakes, Spiner. One fantastic actor slumming it, one vaudeville dude, and one guy whose idea of emoting was stroking his beard.
That about sums it up right there, IMO...:D

A new Star Trek movie? If they film it, I will go. :agree:

Yeah, but who looks at Cueball, Fuzzface and Ol' Yellow Eyes when you have Marina Sirtis?? :D Hey, I think they're fine in the TV series...I've watched every one of the shows and have all but five episodes on 8mm videotape. But I just don't think TV talent always translates to big screen talent.
Although one could make a case about Shatner not being one of three great actors. (He doesn't bother me, but others do have a few issues about his acting...to put it mildly. :D )

I can't believe that Enterprise has emboldened Braga and Co. to create yet another ST series. Traditionally, each successive ST spinoff since NG has had 1/2 the audience of the previous one. That must not be the case with Enterprise. However, I don't know, because I stopped watching it after they started cramming stuff like Ferengi and the Holodeck into the supposed "prequel", I completely lost interest.
I think that if they really want to revive Star Trek, they should revive the original characters, and just have a new cast. I'd like to think that Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Scotty are legendary enough characters that they can stand being interpreted by different actors.

He's one of those guys I'd watch reading the phone book. Sure, there's the overdramatic "IT'S...MY...SHIP" stuff, or "KHANNNNNNNNNNNNNN"......but that's more endearing, to me.
After the disappointing feature film Star Trek: Nemesis and the even-more disappointing Enterprise TV series, I seriously feel that they should let the Star Trek franchise go dormant for several years and then revive it with the Starfleet Academy concept.
The franchise is out of gas and Enterprise is teetering on the brink of cancellation after only three seasons. If it does get cancelled after only three, it would have something in common with the original series.
Keep in mind that a decade passed between the cancellation of the original series and the first feature film, which gave the fandom a chance to build and ensure an audience for the movies.
I think that Trek has over-saturated the sci-fi audience and it needs a breather. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and we need a break from a Star Trek that has becoming increasingly watered-down.

Replace the word I've marked in red with "Rick Berman" and I agree wholeheartedly...

Extremely well said, Chris. Berman has milked the cow into near oblivion, which is an utter (udder? :D ) shame.

What they really need to do with Star Trek is to recast the original characters with real actors to play Kirk/Spock et al. and then violate the Prime Directive everywhere they go. That would be something I would watch. Until then, I'll stick with the good ol' 60s series.

If by "violate the Prime Directive" you mean "shag alien babes", I'm with ya, John...:D

I think the Starfleet Academy idea would have been quite interesting in the hands of Harve Bennett and/or Nick Meyer, but I just don't like the idea of more Berman-ization of the world of the original series.

Chris Berman is a sports caster and, while he looks a lot like Rick Berman, they are not related. (at least so says Rick) A new series by Rick and Brannon?!?! Hmmm. Might have to make a call. Rick......hmmm I might have to skip the call. I agree that the franchise needs to be put away for at least a while. I think there is around 700 episodes between the five shows. One could say the subject has been covered.

This is something that I think the Starfleet Academy film would do, an idea proposed by Berman as long ago as 1990. Shatner talks about it in his Star Trek film biography.

I think the solution to this problem is simple. All they need to do is recalibrate the main deflector dish and rotate the plasma array...
-D
PS: Am I the only person on earth who liked DS9? Sure, it had its hokey moments (Ferengi episodes replaced holodeck episodes as installments to dread, and they really rode the deus-ex-recalibrate-this-and-re-route-that-instead-of-actual-resolution trend hard), but I thought the cast really gelled...even characters I thought would be fairly two-dimensional (Dax) grew as the series progressed. And when the writing was good--Trials and Tribbleations, for example--it was good.

Maybe...? :D No, I didn't mind it myself, since it was entertaining. But I never could get into it like I did ST:TNG either. I'd watch it sporadically if it was on, but never went out of my way to watch it week by week. It's the later two series I had no use for. Voyager I just flat-out didn't like (the characters, especially), and based on that, couldn't bring myself to watch Enterprise either. I can't even admit they were bad shows, as they really weren't, but IMHO they missed something that ST:TNG had that I can't quite put my finger on, and they never engaged me enough to watch.
I didn't even bother with the "Nemesis" movie either, since to me, "Insurrection" was a disappointment. :( It would have been a great two-part TV episode, but didn't translate well as big-screen entertainment IMHO.
I agree. Maybe everything Trek-related needs to be put away for a rest. Who knows? In 20 years we may be making jokes about Picard and crew being "fossils", like we did with the Shatner/Nimoy crew.

No! I thought DS9 was a tremendous show. In fact, I prefer it over any Trek aside from the original series. The continuing story arcs took it to another level.
