Does anyone on the forum own Legacy Signatures?

I am looking to replace my Vandersteen 2Ci loudspeakers within the year and the Legacy Sig III and Classic have caught my attention. If anyone has anything to opine, please do. I am also considering the Vandersteen Model 3.

Marshall Blonstein had a pair in his office at DCC.

I never liked them. Too thin and bright for my tastes.

Legacy Focus is much better IMO.

Speakers are a tough decision for me. Listening to them can be like pulling teeth without anesthetic. I am hoping to get a lot of information by word of mouth before I go listen.

The reason I chose the Vandersteens over a decade ago was I did not like the "audiophile sound". This may not be the correct term, but after listening to a number of speakers (Thiel, Infinity, Spica, Shaninian, Kef and another brand that I think was called Scientific Fidelity) and designs (Sound Lab and Martin Logan notably) the Vandersteens had what I would describe as a "smoother" or "tamer" sound, if not entirely accurate. All the other "audiophile" speakers had a high end bite that I was never comfortable with. I could never tell if the shrillness was due to the speakers or the recordings.


In fact, the Baby Advents I had at the time (with the so-called new and improved tweeter: what a lie) had a decent midrange sound as long as a sponge was taped over the tweeter. Besides, I was a poor post-doc at the time and the Advents served their duty well enough until I discovered that reproduction of deep bass was necessary.

Then forget about the Sig. III's. You'll have to "sponge up" all over again....

Hmmm...Sounds to me like I'm going to have to keep my ears open for a good used pair of the Focus.
