This is a bit silly and probably has come up before but I was wanting to use the poll feature and also wondered "who is the favorite Beatle" in this group?

Favourite person or favourite artist?

(of course we didn't know them personally but we saw/heard/read enough of them to form opinions of them as persons)

I guess that does make a huge difference. I was thinking of artistically so we'll go from there....

Oh, and pre-split...no solo....

John Lennon was certainly outstanding in his own right, but one has to say that the strength of The Beatles was that the whole was more than the sum of the parts. And within that whole there existed one of the most spectacular and prolific songwriting duos ever that lived, at least as far as popular music goes. I guess Lennon/McCartney is the answer/non answer for that reason. And I expect that's what the poll will look like.

I feel a bit guilty by voting for any ONE Beatle. Even the 'weakest' Beatle was essential to the group.

I'm not sure I could pick one over another.

I've always contended that he had THE best voice in rock. :)

The secret's out.....I voted for John too. LOVE HIM FOREVER.

One of the best voices in rock. Most definitely. Side 2 of A Hard Days Night is sufficient proof....and he did it so effortlessly.

THE best voice in rock........well, can't really agree with that. Not because I can name a better one off the top of my head, but it's just such an impossible conclusion to reach.

Of all the bands in the world, the Beatles are really the only one where I feel like a real "fan" in the non-musical sense. The kind that reads any and every scrap ever written about them, and actually knows little things about their lives that most people don't bother with musicians they like. If I had to pick one guy to hang out with, it would have to be John or George. I like Paul, but he always seems "on." Ringo's real nice, too, but I always thought talking with John or George would be a lot cooler. Really outspoken, not the type to bulls*** (always proud of the things they accomplished, but always acknowledging the down side to everything), not to mention funny. Plus, George did wonders for that amazing house he owned. Just watch the film for "Crackerjack Palace." Real impressive, and it's probably changed since that was filmed. Paul Simon, Elton John, and a ton of other people have said how amazing that place is.

Well my Mom's favorite was John Lennon also! Back in 1964 she took me to the Opening of "A Hard Day's Night" I was to young to go alone LOL! I'm proud of her! I think she was the only grow-up in the theater.

I voted for (Sir) Paul McCartney. His songwriting rings positive memories from my childhood in the mid 70s. Other things that impress me are his lyrical creativity and his collaboration with Afro-American artists such as Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. Thanks for all the great music Paul!

Anyway, my favorite Beatle has to be Lennon.
John started the band and was the leader of the band and ended the band by walking away in 1969.

But for the last 20 years, 'collecting the Beatles' has mostly become 'collecting McCartney', hasn't it?
And fortunately, Paul was my 2nd favorite Beatle!

Then George, and then Ringo.

Some might actually put Paul before John, but that would be the only change in the ordering that might make sense.

:D

I thought Paul got wind of John's walking and he then made the move first?

I voted for Paul simply because after The Beatles John did alot of good music but it pales in comparison to the volumes of great stuff that Paul did.

Paul gets bashed because he did put out some real commercial solo stuff, but there are gems in his output. His biggest problem is that he cannot write (consistantly) great lyrics. He would have benefited from a "Bernie Taupin", as his melodies and songs are incredible, yet they are sometimes ruined by a stupid or bland/boring lyric.

John, on the other hand, never had trouble with a lyric, he never even cared if they made sense! It was just something to "make the eggheads think about". (re- I Am the Walrus).

Both of these guys could rock, and both worked best when working together or "against" each other. For example, "Let Me Roll It" from BOTR is Paul doing a John-Type song. Brilliant!

George only pales in comparision to these two, but certainly could stand tall with either of them. Since his song writing skills developed later that the other two, he had a lot of catching up to do.

Bottom line is that they were all at their best together, and in the long run, it was probably best that they did not re-group after the break-up. It would not have worked.

IMHO - coming form a HUGE Beatle fan.

You have hit it "right on"! Together, as a unit, they preformed marvelously. Separately, they were individually talented but the collective magic was missing.

Bob :)
