Anyone have a clue why this has never been released on CD? (Steve - hint hint ;)
Seriously, it's a damn fine album, and with the huge success of Fleetwood Mac, I just can't figure out why this isn't readily available.

Here's what I know, and it may not be solid, so...got salt?
Stevie gave Lindsey permission to release it, but Lindsey supposedly decided later that he wasn't in full comfort to release it. Later on, Stevie was more interested in putting it out, but the two don't agree on how it should be done, label, contract, legal issues, ect.
Keep holding on to your bootlegs. Rumours have been flying since 1989 that the CD should "come out soon". Since then, "Buckingham Nicks" has been on the top three list of the CD WANT LIST in Goldmine, even since no Apple Badfinger material was available legitimately.
The album is really amazing, I feel as well, but legistically, it's a mess behind the scenes.
From an interview circa 1998:
Q: Enchanted also has the first Buckingham-Nicks song ("Long Distance Winter") to
ever appear legitimately on CD. Will the album ever be re-released?
A: Lindsey says yes. Lindsey has said he will do it. See, I own half, he owns
half. I can't put it out without his half. Plus, we don't have a record deal
for it. So before the Buckingham-Nicks record would be released, we would have
to do the whole thing to release a record. But he says he wants to now, so I
would tend to say we'll do it and put it on CD.
You should get the gist now. It's "in the works".
Hold on to what you've got and take care of it. ;)

It depends on who you talk to. A few years ago the story was that Stevie wanted to rerelease it but Lindsay didn't.
The latest is, according to an interview with either Ken Calliet or Keith Olsen (I can't remember which), over on the Peguin site ( www.cyberpenguin.net ), is that either the original master or multitrack is AWOL and it is being searched for. One track, 'Long Distance Winner', was released on Stevie's 'Enchanted' box set and sounds pretty good to my ears. I also heard that Lindsay's instrumental 'Stephanie' (gee I wonder who it was written for ;) )was on a Words & Music promo.
When it is re release I hope they add some bonus tracks. Thre are a few live tracks, single mixes, & demos that were suppose to be on B/N2 that are floating around the web. (2 of these were rerecorded by Stevie for her latest CD Trouble in Shangra La)

I really like that album. I've got three copies now, and I had a fourth pass through my hands, as I was helping a friend abroad with a gift for his sister. What a great guy I am.
Howe'er, some of the lyrics are just horrible. Lola? Ugh.

I'll just add that at one point in the mid-90's there was also a question between Lindsey and Stevie as to whether or not to remix it, if reissued. Personally, I think for what it is in its genre, it's a really good mid-70's type recording. Wasn't Keith Olsen using it to try and sell Mick on the capabilities of the studio and his engineering in the first place?
I'll also add, our slight "pissing match" aside from a few days ago already a distant memory, Grant did a really nice transfer of this album and generously made it available for folks some time ago! :)

Yep . Olsen played him my personal favorite "Frozen Love" to demonstrate Sound City's capabilities. I believe inhis biography Mick also mentioned that B/N were also in the studio recording when he saw Stevie through the glass and asked Olsen who the girl at the mic was. (The only place I ever heard this story was in the book.)

FWIW, I have the digipak (boot needle drop) of Buckingham Nicks and can copy it for anyone interested.

A couple of years ago I sent someone a copy of my vinyl restoration of B/N on CD-R. They sent me a copy of it back with some added tracks. They also did it with the track-at-once method. I liked the bonus tracks but remastered his CD , so I did a new CD along with bonus tracks from another fellow bootmaker. I removed the gaps caused by the first person's master and remastered his version. This has been the copy i've been sending to people.
I had been listening to the bonus track version since then, even remastering the bonus track version once more three months ago for two more people. I have been wondering why it didn't sound quite right. I couldn't put my finger on it. Just tonight, sparked by this thread, I put on my original first generation CD-R master and heard the original warmth and depth I mastered it with. Now, I'm wondering exactly where the bits got lost because I can't find the first guy's version to compare it to.
Thank God I was smart enough to file away my original master!
This proves to me that bits ain't bits!

The question was put to Ken Caillat and he said they have permission to release it and have found the 2 tracks but are still searching for the multis because he wants to release it as a 5:1 mix and stereo mix DVD-A scenario ala Rumours. He's really pro DVD-A because of the video component but could it be that his company is also doing a lot of 5:1 mixes of other artists??

The original mix is perfect as it is. It's what people like. They shouldn't screw with it! Dammit! Give it to Steve! Of course, they probably won't let him use the Polydor logo...
