I finally got the remastered "Waiting For Columbus" and was pleasantly surprised.
While the sound leans to the brighter side of the spectrum, all the detail I hoped to hear was present and the Bass end of the spectrum was also quite good.
Great bonus material, my favorite being "A Day at the Dog Races."
Any more opinions on the re-issue?

I like it too. Much Much better than the old version. More life and absolutely more bass. Nice to hear some tape hiss. Anyone else hear some minor distortion in Payne's piano solo on Dixie Chicken?

The new Waiting for Columbus sounds excellent and the performances - I haven't heard a dud one yet. What a band they were. The news about Hot Tomato records sounds interesting - live releases from various eras and concerts.
The minor distortion in the piano on Dixie Chicken was also present on the single CD - makes it sound a little like an electric piano (maybe it is?)

Little Feat was a great R&R band and Lowell George was the heart and soul of it. They were never the same after he died. btw, LG's solo album is pretty good, too with a GREAT cover of Rickie Lee Jones' "Easy Money"

It is to bright for these ears. I put it on and had to stop it before the first song ended. My ears really were hurting :(
I play it on the clock radio in the bedroom and it sounds fine. Those guys at Digiprep are starting to get on my ears. Maybe Steve could give them a few pointers :D

Hard to tell from the album notes--Payne said he
also had a baby grand along on the tour, to the
dislike of the crew. It sounds acoustic to me; I'll
bet the boys in the sound truck had problems with
the mic levels. The production notes indicate they
did not overdub any keyboard parts.

I have this and really like it. It does tend to fall to the high side just a bit but not as much as most Rhino remasters. Maybe they are changing the way they are doing things.
As far as the performance...kicks ***! No rock collection should be without a copy! :)

I agree totally. That’s why I listen to it on the clockradio in the bedroom instead of getting rid of it :)
Is this a 2 CD set? Was there bonus disc?
Two Cd set. Outtakes on disc two after the encore.

Hi,
I bought it the day it was released. I was immediately impressed by the clarity and soundstage, BUT, knowing Rhino/Inglot's heavy handed use of high end in the past- I was expecting some lack of bass.
By the time I got to Oh Atlanta- sure enough- too bright- lack of bottom end- and I am not the kind of guy who wants BOOMY bass.
For the record- I own the original CD release on 1 CD, the MFSL vinyl, and the new remaster.
If I could work out my hum problems brin ging music into my PC, I would dup the MFSL.

Oddly, I find the MFSL vinyl to be a bit too bright as compared to my original WB vinyl issue, which sounds spectacular.
I do like the new remaster, though I wish they had retained the original running order. It seems odd for the old "side 3" to follow the old "side 1" although I guess that's how they played it. I guess I'm just used to hearing Dixie Chicken after Spanish Moon, but that's probably nitpicking. Buy it if you don't own some version of it already.
Great liner notes and photos, too.
