I picked this up at an estate sale today. Cover is in very good shape, record had scuffs, but looked like it had not been played much, had original inner sleeve. Put it on the VPI 16.5 a, and played side one and WOW! Very little noise and a beautiful analog sound. My question is how rare is this LP and what is the going price for it? Anyone?

Does this mean that no one on this forum knows of this release. or is it that no one wants to devulge any info? BTW, Art Pepper plays clarinet on this LP! And also, I've NEVER heard a "CLASSIC" living stereo Soud this good! (My first real Living Stereo):)

Hi,

a mint one goes for $25 or less. Recording quality is excellent - but this is the case with almost every Mancini album from ca. 1959-70. My Mancini favourite (soundwise) is the "Charade" soundtrack. My personal suggestion if you like his music: Get the 2 LP set "This Is Henry Mancini" (RCA VPS-6029) which should be easily located for $5 or so, since it had been in print until the early 80s. Even though it's some kind of an extended "Greatest Hits" album, the sound is great and - what is even more important - it omits the dreadful 1970/80s re-recordings found on later compilations.

Thanks for your reply Arne. It's going to be hard for me to drive by a garage/yard/estate sale this week while I'm off work!

Have a good
week,Ron:)

Combo is not a common record; it's one of the most difficult Mancini albums to find, IMO. Had a customer who wanted one, and would pay $50+. Haven't seen one clean in five years, so no $50 for me.

There are currently about 20 or so listed on gemm.com; the majority of the sellers call for sth. in the $15-$18 range. There must be at least one of them that actually is in mint condition. Maybe not an A1 stamper, though...

If you look more closely you will see that there are a total of 2 mint minus or better copies in stereo with the correct catalog number. No telling how original they are or what mint minus means, but that's a very good start! I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I wanted that record; most places will guarantee your satisfaction.
