I see that the SE BLAZING SADDLES DVD will be issued with 5.1 surround and a lot of extras. I can hardly wait.

Cool. Here is one DVD that I won't mind purchasing a second time.
The first purchase allowed me to see the movie for the first time in the proper aspect ratio. It was a revelation!!

I hope the SE has the "created for TV" footage!

What I really want to hear is the farting going around the room, I mean the campfire.

The new DVD will include a TV pilot for a program called BLACK ORPHEUS, or something like that.

I've been holding off on buying this one for years, hoping they'd re-do it properly. Looks like the waiting is finally gonna pay off.

What I really want to hear is the farting going around the room, I mean the campfire.During the Warner Brothers Home Video chat over at the Home Theater Forum, the Blazing Saddles SE was announced by the WBHV staffers as follows:A BLAZING SADDLES SE is coming this Summer. And it's in 5.1! Wait til you hear the bean scene! I think we can all agree that this is exactly why we purchased powered subwoofers. :)

Woo-hoo! I too hope it includes the made-for-TV footage, as a bonus though (and not as a 'director's cut'). I've never heard of this Black Orpheus bit...does it star Cleavon Little? Or is it a Mel Brooks thing? Or both?

Was the Cleavon Little part really written for Richard Pryor?

The movie was co-written by Pryor, IIRC. Don't know if he was supposed to play the part, too.

The stories behind the making of this film, some of which are related by Mel Brooks on the audio interview from the DVD and letterboxed laserdisc are pretty good. When the film was being written, they envisioned John Wayne as the Ringo Kid. They sent the script to him and were not too surprised when he turned it down, but apparently he responded personally and let them know that while he did not think his fans could handle him doing the role, he thought it was one of the funniest things he had ever read and would certainly buy a ticket to see it.

Subsequent to that, Gene Wilder had to lobby very hard for the part because in Brooks' mind, the character was much older.

Can you imagine John Wayne and Richard Pryor in Blazing Saddles? Wowsa. I doubt it would be better than what it came to be with Little & Wilder, but still...

Probably the second-most quotable movie of all time(first being Monty Python & The Holy Grail): "Hey, where are all the white women at?"

You couldn't make a movie like that today in these politically correct times!

ROFLMAO...

That movie is such a classic. Next to Young Frankenstein (and Spaceballs, but don't tell anyone), I consider it to be Brooks' best film.
