I think I saw the trailer for this one on Letterman last night, but I hope I was dreaming. The Rock is in a remake of WALKING TALL?? Are none of my teenage drive-in icons safe anymore? First TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, now this? What's next? Jessica Simpson in a remake of FROGS? :realmad:

That would certainly throw the Buford Pusser family scenes into a different light.


Personally, I rather see Woody Allen direct the remake, in which Buford's on-again-off-again relationship with a local hooker forces him to retreat into an existential funk while the casino business in the county thrives. :laugh: :laugh:

It is only a matter of time before we see Vin Diesel playing Billy Jack in a remake of "Born Losers". :)

Don't forget that they already did "Shaft" with Samuel L. Jackson (who is only six years younger than Richard Roundtree).

I personally don't know much about Dwayne Douglas Johnson, aka The Rock as I don't watch wrassslin' and have never seen a movie he's been in.

The Rock will be in the "Get Shorty" sequel "Be Cool" as well. The character in the Elmore Leonard book is a big Samoan fella, and I believe The Rock is half-Samoan, on his mom's side. I enjoyed his hosting stints on Saturday Night Live, but haven't seen any of his movies yet (I saw a little bit of "The Mummy Returns", but couldn't take any more).

As for Walking Tall, one of my favorite lines I have ever read in a film review was written by Doug Pratt in his review of the laserdisc: "The sound boom or its shadow is so prominently displayed in Walking Tall that it ought to be considered a supporting character". :)

The Rock isn't half bad - if he plays his cards right he could be a big star. His choice of films so far have been iffy, but he's got a ton of presence. I was really impressed by his comedy work on SNL .

This movie is from the same company that brought you a remake of RollerBall and this year will bring a remake of The Pink Panther starring Steve Martin. It beats coming up with an original idea for a movie.

I thought that the movie was supposed to be inspired by Bufford Pusser and the Walking Tall Movie, not a remake. I heard a movie review that the original intention was to remake the Walking Tall movie 100% with the original names, but the Rock said he would only do it if the names and plot was changed because he believed nothing could beat the original. Heck, Pusser's daughter likes it Walking Tall Site (http://www.sheriffbufordpusser.com/nfhome.htm). :cool:

If it's a *good* idea, why not remake something 30 years later for a new generation? Should there be no new productions or film versions of Shakespeare plays just because they've "been done before?"

(and yes, I do realize the irony of referring to Shakespeare in a thread about Walking Tall :D )

My questions to you:
1)Why can't the new generation watch the original film?
2)Who said it was a good idea to begin with? Although not all re-makes are bad, it's just they don't usually improve on the original.
4)What movies did Shakespeare ever write and direct?
