Is this for real? Did MOFI put out a set of all Beatles Cds in Japan? All in their Mini Lp sleeves. Know anything about this set?

They are Boots of the MFSL Beatles Box Set.

Boots, Ron.

You can make out the needle drop on some of them....

Made from the MFSL LP set....

I've also seen some cheap Italian "Gold" CD's in my travels...all of them have the crummy, "knock-off" type version of the "Original Master Recordings" etc etc on the face...they look cheap anyway...

Some folks say they sound quite good.

Hi guys,

Yes they're all needle drops. Personally I've never heard the Beatles sound better than on the Japanese aluminum cd's in the mini LP jackets. Stereo so wide and full it's unbelieveable until you hear it for yourself, sounds like the boys are standing in your listening room with ya. I haven't heard the Italian version yet though.

I felt the same way until I heard the mirrorspock versions (again, MFSL needle drops), which are less bright and easier on the ears than the Japan mini-LPs. However, this may be nothing more than a different EQ that you could easily duplicate with the mini-LPs. I haven't heard the Dr. Ebbets versions.

What I would love to hear are CD-R needle drops of the original black and yellow label Parlophone LPs!

I've heard from a few other forum members that the Doc Ebbets versions are the best. Sent them an email 3 days ago in regards to ordering and have heard nothing back yet.

I agree with Dob that it would be awesome to hear vinyl drops from the originals.

Any opinions are appreciated.

Boy, just think, If they sound as good as you guys are saying, they must have been needle dropped on some really great analog front end.(Koestu Maybe?or something of that nature) Thanks for all your responses. RJ

I don't know what was used for the Japan mini-LPs, but mirrorspock claims to have a top notch vinyl setup.

For real? Ive seen lots of these CDs on eBay, passed them off for some
crappy knock-off boot someone just tryin to scam a buck with. Are you
guys sayin' these are good versions? I mean they're not really made
by MFSL, and they look like junk (the CDs do, the sleeves are cool!)
Whats the story? Am I reading this right?

Yes you're readin' us right. They are quite good as they blow away any commercial release on cd by a mile.;)

The CDs don't look good by themselves, but they come with white stick on labels that mimic the MFSL vinyl labels. If the labels are not applied, you have to (carefully!) apply them yourself. IMO the CDs look great with the labels.

There appear to be 2 different versions of the MFSL Beatles. IMO the ones with the mini covers are better than the lift-lock jewels. The ones in the jewels seem harsher to my ears.
