And they made it a private auction... So people can't warn the "suckers." Amazing.

I mailed safeharbor@ebay.com (I'm such the snitch!), and included the pic with original picture of the sigs (was it you who found that?). Anyways, we'll see what they say.

Wasn't me who found it, but in the image below the original "autographs" are in blue and I took the handwriting from the other image someone posted and colored it red so it would stand out from what the seller was showing and as you can see, I was able to overlay them pretty accarately-- signatures from three different guys shouldn't match that closely unless they are faked. I got McCartney and Harrison's signatures to match perfectly overtop of each other, and Lennon may not have matched if the art wasn't sitting perfect in the scanner when the guy did it for this...

Mikey, see the red sigs I put in my image? They were taken from this -- you be the judge.

...of the signatures, if your monitor is good you should be able to see a white border around all of the signatures, those are remnants of editing that weren't removed well... (trust me, I've spent the last few days doing this, I know from where I speak!) Those remnants shouldn't be there, unless their pens created a fringe around everything they wrote.
In case you think that's JPG artifacting, please note there is no such white fringe along John's head. End of Retouch 101.

guys, i believe that this is a fake, BUT how did they get the fake signatures on the record jacket?
did they print a new slick after doing an overlay?
Then paste it on white Lp jacket?

Mikey:
They didn't ... the signed cover doesn't physically exist.
They've just dummied up a scan to make people think that it does.... and then after the winner sends his payment, he gets-- nothing!!
We call it mail fraud (and false avertising) where I come from.

Any one know how many of these covers are in circulation?

Mikey, this is all purely in the digital domain. There is nothing physical to send because what he's displaying doesn't exist.
Who knows what the guy is really gonna send the "winner?" If the guy just pays a for a legit butcher cover (they aren't $5000) and has a few large rubber stamps made it might buy him time... It may help that he's in Italy hoping to sell to an American sucker, but that's all my speculation since I'm not the devious type...
Since I took my sweet time on this post... What Joel said!

Now there's an interesting idea... buy a $300 butcher cover, and get a forger to sign on the real record, send that over. Betcha the new owner would never know.

He might be enough of an artist himself that he could do it on his own. If he made a photo copy of the sigs and took some graphite (or carbon) paper he could just write over the signatures and it would leave a mark on the cover that he could go back over with a marker or pen. Where there's a will there's a way.
The seller could say that the ebay image was just for illustration purposes if the buyer questions it after the fact. All this is the very reason those dream discs read "FAKE" after a few hours...
I sure hope that our Zoo keeper gets this seller off of ebay with his email.
I know whenever I see a private auction I assume it's usually for porno material not our beloved Beatles.
That seller should be terminated from ever doing any business at any auction house!

end of rant.
This is one of the many reasons that I love our forum. I would have never known about nor suspected this kind of BS from an ebay seller, especially after having great business relationships with many international sellers from ebay.
Multiple knowledge, ideas, opinions and questions leads to a greater intelligence.
Thanks everyone

Dave, send me your e-mail address in a Private Message and I'll shoot you the higher quality file that doesn't say FAKE in gigantic letters!
But, ya know-- thinking about it... if I wasn't trying to act like such a hotshot... I should've yellowed my disc to make it look aged. That thing looks like it was just made. Or mebbe, just mebbe-- that was all part of my master plan! Yeah, that's the ticket! ;)
