I stumbled into this vinyl Box Set of LVB's Late Piano Sonatas performed brilliantly by Maurizio Pollini. This gives me another Hammerklavier recording. You can never have too many of those!!

Nice score.

What do you think of Pollini's Beethoven?

I think that the Late Sonatas are well served by this 1977 Pollini collection. I'm not quite sure what happened to his abilities in the past decade or so. It's a mystery to me. I don't have anyother Beethoven Sonata recordings by Maurizio. I have plenty of Edwin & Annie Fischer, Backhaus, Kempff, & Richter among others. Have you any other suggestions?

Looks like you have the great ones covered. Perhaps Brendel, but to a point. His track record is spotty, but he's made some great recordings.
Here's his discography:

My eyes are open for the 70's Philips cycle:) Do you have some of these?

Dan,

Funny thing happened today. I went up to SF and found THE Brendel Beethoven box set that seems to get the highest praise of them all. His early 60's cycle recorded on VOX. The vinyl is in mint condition. I don't even have to put them through the "Nitty Gritty" ritual. I haven't checked out the discography URL that you supplied in your message. I'll check it out right now.

Regard's, Tom B.

I'm taking a trip to Denver next weekend. I'll hit the usual haunts and hopefully score something this nice!
