I assume most people here probably don't care about these bands. Oh well, for those that do:

http://www.theblackcrowes.com/index3.html

Short version: Official word is that they're on "hiatus" and Steve Gorman has quit.

http://www.megadeth.com/news/pr/disband.html

Short version: Mustaine did severe nerve damage to his left arm and hand in January and is going to be in rehab for a year. It's unclear how well he will be able to play again. He's decided to exit the band, effectively ending it.

I'm guessing the ex-members of both bands will get together and form a new band, either BlackDeth or the MegaCrowes. ;)

Claviusb, I implore you, please make up a graphic for this fictitious band MegaCrowes incorporating elements of the logos and mascots for each.

BTW, Megadeth's first album was recently re-released in a remixed version. There was a "problem" with their version of "These Boots" (the other Sinatra) and they wound up bleeping a lot of the lyrics.

Claviusb,

How about MegaCrowe: Flappin' For Freedom as their first album title.;)

...Or The BlackDeth: Plagued And Embraced :D

Please, don't give those people any ideas!

I own CDs from both of these groups, but I'll say with all respect, if these bands released anything right now, the world would not care.

Go ahead and look at billboard.com and see just how radically DIFFERENT the charts are. Almost looks like a British chart of the 80s - All pop driven, many Soundtracks and Various Artists appearing high. Weird!

We're in the middle of an entertainment boost concerning movies (DVD) and home electronics (DV cameras, Internet, PC related) and I'm feeling the people who really enjoy music are the pop lovers and a few brave audiophiles.

And I'm getting a little tired of all these prozac flavored rock bands with the same lyrical content and guitar angst "Ooh, I suck and you hate meeee" Man!

You have to be careful when you speak on behalf of the "world."

Instead of going to Billboard's website, go to RIAA.org.

Megadeth

Countdown to Extinction - 2x platinum
Cryptic Writings - gold
Peace Sells - platinum
Rust in Peace - platinum
So Far, So Good - platinum
Youthanasia - platinum

[Risk is not listed as going gold, but I'm 98.8% sure it did.]

Black Crowes

Amorica - gold
Money Maker - 5x platinum
Southern Harmony - 2x platinum
Live at the Greek (w/Page) - gold

Assuming that Risk went gold and the albums that didn't go gold sold zero copies, these two bands have 15 million records between them. Both had new albums last year. Both were on tour last year. Megadeth's album debuted at #16 on the Billboard hot 200. They also released their "Behind the Music" on DVD last year.

This year, Megadeth released a live 2 CD set, reissued their first album in a remixed, expanded package, and will release a live DVD/VHS later this month.

Tonight, Conan O'Brien included a joke in his monologue about Megadeth breaking up.

Are sales down for these bands? Sure. Guess what -- sales are down for Mariah, too.

Assuming both bands are broken up, it's not because of apathy on the part of fans. In the case of Megadeth, it's because Dave busted his hand. In the case of the Crowes, the most likely reason is that Rich and Chris were about to kill each other.

Now, Claviusb, where's that logo?

Dave Mustaine made a very good band after Metallica kicked him outa the band he wanted to dominate and be a better player than Metallica. If anyone of you guys seen his documentry on Mtv he had lots of probs with drugs and alchool throughout his carrer. Megadeth
