All,
I listened to Al Green Greatest Hits while I was getting ready for work this morning. Tonight, I plan on listening to Nat King Cole's Greatest Hits while I prepare dinner. A little "Hoffman" always makes every day a "better day"!

Just received the Doors "Doors" CD as mastered by Steve..can't get it off that CD player right now!
Pet Sounds and 10CC are coming in the mail....oh and I keep playing Dylan and Buddy Holly as well...it's an addiction!!!
Ahhhh, the Hoffman Experience!
I'm still playing Bonnie Riatt. I got it yesterday.
You know what my biggest fear is? That I'll run out of Hoffman discs someday. I pray that it's only a nightmare.
Ever notice that after listening to a Hoffman, your tolerance for other CD's is reduced drastically? I find myself saying "What IS this crap? Did they deliberately try to ruin this artists career?"
Maybe they did! Is there a secret agenda to rid the world of music? Hmmmmmm.....

Double that Amen!!
I have to agree that my tolerance levels of some CD's in my collection has reached zero pretty quickly since hearing Steve's and other top engineers mastering..people who care.
In addition to Steve's stuff, I'm appreciating the mastering of Bernie Grundman, Chris Bellman, Bob Ludwig, Gavin Lurssen and others much more now. Long may it continue..
Death to poor mastering!!!!
Happy listening!

Been listening to DCC Coltrane today...'Traneing In' & 'Lush Life'. Trane is an experience all to himself. Steve has enhanced this, thanks!

I got my hands on Jim Croce's 24 Karat Gold In A Bottle exactly one week ago. I've played the entire disc about a dozen times already.
Superb job, Steve! :D

I'm gonna go put on my copy of Too Cute! right now. It's been too long since I heard Dodie Stevens sing "Tan Shoes and Pink Shoe Laces."
P.S. No, I'm not kidding.
Gary,
Yes after hearing a Steve version and then some other label's interpretation of an artists album I'm ready to have an MFSL yardsale, as soon as Steve masters the complete albums, Elton John: Goodbye Yellowbrick Road comes to mind.;)
I just listened to The Everly Brothers and WOW!:D

Been listening to Eagles' Hotel California DCC gold since I won it from e-bay last week. That title track of the DCC is so organic as compared to the live version of Hell Freezes Over. Hope Hell Freezes Over will be Hoffmanized one day in future.
lerun,
Welcome.:D
Personally you can keep Hell Freezes Over or maybe wait until after Steve remasters Greatest Hits 2 first as I believe that it would be a much better seller.

Yes exactly, and that's something that's been worrying me for the last 25 years or so, since becoming an "audiophile".
Do audiophiles, in their quest for better SOUND, enjoy the MUSIC more or less?
As a result, do audiophiles end up listening to less music? (ie in the audiophiles quest for better sound does he/she spend too much time listening to the same music rather than exploring other music?)
Do audiophiles end up listening to the best sounding CDs by an artist instead of their favourite music by that artist? Does the best sounding become the favourite irrespective of its musical merit? (I know I (used to) listen to The Last Record Album LP by Little Feat more than say Dixie Chicken, purely for its gorgeous sound).
Of course there will always be exceptions: Some music will always transcend its sound quality limitations, for example The Kinks 60s catalogue.
I know I am often guilty of all of the above and it worries me.....and of course it drives my wife and friends crazy!

Peter,
For me, it has always been "about the music" and a never ending quest to hear my favorites with with more fidelity and dynamic range. If the music is of poor quality, it does not matter how great it sounds. This morning before work, I listened to the DCC Doobie Bros. Greatest Hits while I was getting ready.

Hi Bob
No doubt we are all on that same quest!
I wasn't suggesting however that we are guilty of listening to "poor" music just for its sound quality except for, say, hi fi demonstration purposes.
It's a matter of degree I guess, as in my Little Feat example (both good or great albums).
Maybe all that I am suggesting is that to the average man in the street (and probably our families) we might all be a little, at best, eccentric and, at worst, seriously lacking in other ways!............unless of course it's our profession.
Anyway, for me as for you, it has always been about the music.
Long live the Kinks!

Peter,
I have a friend here in this area who has spent a fortune on expensive, ultra high end audio equipment, yet, he only has about 200 LPs and about a 100 CDs. For him it is more "about the equipment". He enjoys the music but is more into the "hardware". I bring music from my collection to his place for listening sessions because of his limited selection. While I own a pretty good sounding system, it would never be considered "ultra high end". I spend more money each year on "the music".

I just bought a 2002 remastering of Rick Nelson's Greatest Hits produced by the late Bob Hyde. Sounds great.

I listened to it in the car on the way home. I haven't listened to it critically on the home system yet. Been busy with musical things on the PC.

Grant,
When you have the time to give it a critical listening session, I would be interested in hearing the details of what you hear. I have always respected Bob Hyde's work and was sad to learn of his passing.
Thanks!

Thanks

Aceman,
Rock the First...have always thought Steve did a great job with that series.
Van Halen--much improved over the regular commercial release.
Bob :)
The way Van Halen should have been recorded all along (as he walks over and puts in VH S/T gold);)
