View Full Version : CCR Willy LP from Analogue Productions
Will the "soon come" Analogue Productions LP of CCR Willy and the Poor Boys be a totally new remaster, or will Chad use the old DCC stampers (as in Sax Colossus)?
I already have the DCC, but would gladly pay $25 to compare the new state of the art set up by Steve and Kevin.

I think Steve said in an older post (do search) that they did a new mastering of this album. He said it would be slightly different. Check the archives...

Thanks Todd,
I found the answer. It will be a new remaster and slightly different. Steve says there is no need to get the new one unless you love this record to death.
I do.

I don't know whether or not to believe it but based on the new Acoustic Sounds catalog, not only are the CCR lps remastered but Kevin Gray is using new equipment to cut the lp. This new equipment supposedly yields a quiter background and should sound slightly better than the original DCC release. For what it's worth, Michael Fremer heard a test pressing and was simply blown away.

Mista Hoffman, can you chime in here?

I will certainly be getting the Analogue Productions then. For those of us with a DCC copy, it will provide a good way to measure the improvement.

BC,
It may not be that easy to measure an improvement from the DCC to the AP version based on equipment. I think Steve said that he made some different choices in his mastering approach to this new version. So some sonic difference may be attributed to those choices rather than the new equipment. If he used the same approach (maybe he did if my memory is failing) then that would be a better situation to do an equipment comparison. Another possible test would be to compare the DCC and AP "Saxophone C" to see if RTI's newer vinyl formulation (which I think they are using) and possible improved pressing techniques (it's been a few years since the DCC version was pressed) yield any significant difference since both are from the same stamper...

Todd,
Is RTI's new formulation the same as "Classic Records Quiex SV"?
I thought only Classic Records used Quiex SV.
In other words...are we talking about two formulations or the same monkey with a different name?

Yes, I believe it is RTI's new formulation not Classic's. If I'm correct, "Classic Records Quiex SV" is just marketing. They pay RTI to do their pressings and it's the same for all customers. I strongly doubt that RTI keeps a vat in a separate locker with a large sign nailed on it with big-red painted letters saying (Our Gang style) "WARNING! ONLY USE THIS BATCH FOR CLASSIC RECORDS!!"

Thanks Todd,
By the way...I did have both DCC and AP versions of Sax Colossus at my house last week. When I learned the same stampers were used... the AP was returned unopened. Too bad.
I may still get it someday when a big sale comes along.

BC,
If you do get the AP version (again) post your findings...
