Smokey Robinson: can these be from the same tape?

    I have two stereo masterings of Smokey Robinson's "Abraham, Martin and John" song. One from the flat 1986 anthology and the other from a 2002 compressed compilation. The mix, at least at the beginning, is surely the same... but when the band comes in, the 2002 has a much fuller sound without any noise. Do you guys think this is a remix or just mastering tricks?
