I am always willing to hear when I'm in the mood for these recordings or when someone plays these recordings:
anything by Burl Ives, Gordon Lightfoot, Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, John Denver, Jimmy Buffett, an example is particularly the AC radio staple "Margaritaville," "The Unicorn" by The Irish Rovers, Neil Diamond, Billy Joe Royal, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, Conway Twitty, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and many others

Hey people,

How about also posting your personal record for listening to a favorite song?

My record is with "Karn Evil 9 1st Impression" (Parts 1 and 2), by ELP. I listened to it every day (at least once, before going to sleep) for well over a year.

Driver's Seat - Sniffin' the Tears - great sonics on the ACE cd

You're Gonna Miss Me - 13th Floor Elevators - spooky tune, great at night

We're Gonna Love - Sir Winston and the Commons - my favorite garage tune of all time, fuzz guitar from start to finish just buzzes like an angry bee, then breaks into a fantastic solo that goes on and on - makes me proud of my fellow Hoosiers!!!

Let's Have a Party - Wanda Jackson - queen of rockabilly, red hot mama, screaming vocal, Big Al Downing pounding the keys - gets the blood boiling

All Day and All of the Night - Barry and the Remains - whooooo, smokin' live in the studio "audition" done for some Capitol Record guys while the Remains were under contract to Epic - smokes the Kinks version like you wouldn't believe...

Kinda obscure, and ones you pobably won't get over the airwaves!

Two that come to mind:

Soul Survivors' "Expressway To Your Heart"

CCR's "Susie Q" (as long as it's not the single edit -- I have to have all 8:34 of it!)

Here are a few:

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme (the entire album)

Zeppelin - No Quarter, Over the Hills & Far Away, When The Levee Breaks, too many more to list

Miles Davis - Circle In The Round (really way ahead of it's time), entire Miles Smiles album. No finer album exists IMO. Steve - you really should tackle this one (it is Columbia, which probably helps!).

JJ Cale - Call Me The Breeze (no, Skynyrd wasn't the first band to record this), Woman I Love (well, almost everything on Naturally doesn't tire for me).

The Beatles - Rain (why, I couldn't tell you), The Inner Light (lyrics may be a little trite, but amazing how they blended Eastern music into Western pop), Hey Bulldog (kicks more axe than anything else they ever recorded). Tomorrow Never Knows also. I can just picture George Martin's face as John's explaining how he'd like to capture his latest LSD fueled semi-religious experience on the 4-track

Black Sabbath - the first 2 albums, almost entirely. Incredible stuff. When do they get their nod into the R & R Hall? Jeez already

Creedence - Run Through The Jungle comes to mind first for me, but I could easily rattle off 20 of their tunes that belong here.

Nirvana - Pretty much all of Nevermind and In Utero. If this is "overproduced" then Kurt must be rolling in his grave over the trash on so-called Alt-Rock radio these days.

Nick Drake - Took a VW ad for me to notice him (Damn! what is that great new song!). Sure makes me feel rediculous! Anyway, I can't get sick of Pink Moon or Bryter Layter (still don't have Five Leaves Left - something to really look forward to!).

CSN - The entire CSN album from '77 (I think) where it pictures them sailing on a yacht. No one ever mentions this album. It's always Deja Vu and the debut. But this one's a killer. There might be a couple weak points, but for those of you who don't have this album, don't wait any longer!

Neil Young - After the Gold Rush & Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (the entire album for each). Harvest doesn't hold up as well for me, but there's no lack of love there either.

Too many more... I give up! ;)

Side 2, Abbey Road. Here was my M.O. Just load the BSR and keep the hold-down bar at the open position for unlimited repeat pleasure. Did that (and Sgt Pepper side 2, largely) for about a year, maybe longer. Often threw on side 1 of the White Album for good measure. My younger brother wanted to kill me, but in spite of this torture, he really likes the Beatles now. Go figure! :p

It was all about the music then. I thought that stupid BSR sounded OK (was a big improvement over my little suitcase-style kid player!). Everything is relative!

My wife's sister did the exact same torture with Carole King's Tapestry album, but my wife does not like the album today - she HATES it! That album cannot and will not be played at our house, EVER, period the end (unless I ever want to commence divorce proceedings - hmmm...).

It's a good thing that I'm not a big fan of that album and don't even own a copy!

I really LOVE a lot of songs. I'm one of those people that can play a song over and over if I like it. Here are a few....

"Follow You Follow Me" Genesis
"There is no Greater Love" Nat King Cole
"Father and Son" Cat Stevens
"Time in a Bottle" Jim Croce

Now that you've got me started... Geeze, I guess I could go on forever.

But I know others posting to this thread will list many more of my favorites... so I'll stop for now with just the ones I think nobody else will mention.

At the moment I can't tell you exactly where, but I have it on two Rhino compilations and a Time-Lifde comp. I prefer the mono mix.

It sounds pretty much the same whereever you find it.

The best "Sunny" by Bobby Hebb is on the Dennis Drake mastered PolyGram "45's On CD, volume II" or whatever it was called. Flat from the two-track mix.

Awesome version!!!!!!!!
