Ronflugelguy,
I think you got a rare one, pal!
Are the three tracks at the end alternate mixes of "Sitting On Top Of The World", "As You Said" and "Pressed Rat And Warthog"?

...And the second question is where did Ronflugelguy get his copy? Let us know, maybe they have more of the same batch?

True Todd. I'd love to hear what the "Pressed Rat & Warthog" alternate sounded like. I wonder if Ginger Baker could read like that in 2-3 takes...?

Boys,
Simmer down.
Not alternate "takes", just alternate MIXES.
Just some slight mix variations if I remember correctly. For example, the alternate mix of "Sitting On Top Of The World" didn't have any echo on it, unlike the released version. "As You Said" has MORE echo and is more spacey sounding. "Pressed Rat" has the guitar a bit more out front, etc.

Was the abnormality something originally wished-to-be-released, or was the extras a mistake?
Sorry to "assume" there, Steve. Me big butthead.

Well, the story as I remember it (it has been 10 years) is this:
We prepared two master tapes. The first had everything that exisited on "Wheels Of Fire", including the original master mixes, the elongated outtake from "Passing The Time", "Anyone For Tennis" and the alternate "hold" mixes of the three above mentioned tracks.
The second master tape we prepared was for production, and this was sent to Superior Disc in Japan to be used in the making of the DCC Gold CD set of "Wheels Of Fire".
When Superior Disc closed down in 1994 or so, DCC needed to make some more "Wheels Of Fire" sets and we chose both Sanyo and Nimbus, who made really great Gold CD's.
I guess what happened, is that our production person sent the new American plant the first version of the tape, and that is what they used to press their run, hence the extra tracks at the end.
So the version with the extra tracks is actually the second pressing, made in America.

I bought my copy of these cds in Albany N.Y. about 1 month ago. I was suprised to find it. Mine does have the extra tracks. I just figured Steve was giving his fans an extra treat . Funny thing is, I almost didn't buy it. Then I kicked myself and remembered how many times I passed on "Highway 61" about three years ago. Scored a Hotel California also.

Hmmm... Well, now I have to go home pull my copy off the shelf and do some listening. Maybe there's more gold there then I thought.
I knew about the Nat "King" Cole Easter egg but this is a whole 'nuther bunny!

This is a silly question but is "Wheels of Fire" incredibly difficult to find? Any online stores still have it in stock?

Try using that CDNOW link I posted up tword the 2nd post. I just tried and re-emptied the cart. They say they have em in stock for $45. DCC is the only "Gold Series" I know... $44.98?? Not bad!
X'cept it doesn't SAY DCC. CDNOW has known to screw up. Worth a try though.

I don't know if it's true or not but towerrecords.com says they have it available in 3 to 5 days.

Here's a link to mymusic.com that has "Wheels of Fire" for $38.90. I ordered it a month or so ago and did get a sealed DCC copy. I haven't opened it yet to see which version it is.

Good luck with mymusic.com. They don't update their database properly. I ordered 5 out of print cd's last month and got zippo, nada, nothing, zilch.
