Looks like the world trade center has been removed from the cover of the dvd, but did they remove it from the movie also?

I hope they didn't remove the WTC from the movie. As a historian, removing the WTC from scenes in movies is an attempt to alter history as to not upset anyone. It's bad enough Back to the Future was altered to remove any mention of terrorists for TV airings for a while, or the story that Escape from New York was never going to air on TV again due to an essential plot point in the movie. If I recall, there were shots of the NY skyline in the movie, so hopefully the producers of this DVD left the shots intact.

I hope they remove Daryl Hannah's tail. I'm offended by fish, and I know many people who are, too. :rolleyes:

Agreed. People get so afraid that every program with a mention of the WTC will be edited that they lose sight of how incredibly infrequently this has actually happened. Really, what examples are there? There was the "Spider-Man" trailer - that's all I can recall.

I'd be shocked if the towers went missing from the movie. Can you blame them for changing the cover art? That often happens for new versions of previously issued DVDs anyway, but in this case, it seems absolutely sensible. How odd would it look for a new DVD to come out with the WTC featured so prominently on the cover?

IIRC the complete end battle was changed because it took place on top the towers of the WTC originally.

The WTC was electronically erased from some scenes in Zoolander before its theatrical release.:(

Also, the trailer for the remake of The Time Machine showed a chunk of the shattered Moon hitting the TWC. The scene was deleted from the movie.

But wasn't this sensible? So far all the examples show movies that were changed PRE-release. I haven't heard of any alterations to already-existing titles, and I can't blame the folks in question who altered their not-yet-released titles. How bizarre would it have been to see "Spider-Man" in 2002 with the WTC in it? "Zoolander" was more a victim of immediate post-9/11 sensitivity, but I still don't see it as an issue - the changes didn't alter a movie that'd been out already.

I know the ending of M.I.B. 2 was changed (pre-release) but I'm not so sure about Spider-Man. That bridge scene comes right out of the comic books (Gwen Stacey's death arc).

And there are lots of things in trailers that don't make it to the final cut. Remember, two years ago people were *very* sensitive to such things and where WTC images could easily be changed they were. But going back and erasing stuff from released films isn't that easy (or cheap) to do and the resulting publicity isn't good. Heck, look at the backlash that Spielberg took for E.T.

Was any of the Spider Man footage actually shot on top of the WTC? I thought they were in the process of filming when the 9/11 attack began and changed their ending as they could no longer film atop what was no longer there. I read Lilo and Stitch (sp?) was changed because originally Stitch hijacked a 747 and crashed it into a building to show the weapon aspect of his personality. Although no one was killed, that was a little too close to reality for Disney. Hopefully all will be well with Splash.

I never saw "Splash" but I think of it as a recent movie. Can it really be 20 years old??
