It is fun to use "Rainbow" and "Gainsbourg" in the same post; not much commonality there:).

Anyway, Universal/Japan has recently released yet another batch of Rainbow remasters. They have redone all albums again, and judging by their catalog numbers and descriptions, these may be different from the Suha Gur remasters that are available from Universal in the US, Europe and Japan. The Gur remasters are fine IMO, but there are strange distortions in some of the guitar parts that were not there on the LPs.

Now the question: if anyone has heard the new Japanese remasters (the catalog numbers are UICY 9190 to 9198/9), what is your estimate of the sound?

As for Gainsbourg, Universal Music France reissued several titles in April last year, promoting those as "new digital remasters". Again, I would be interested in the sound of La Chant De l'Une, L'etonnant Serge Gainsbourg, No.4, Confidentiel, and Percussions.

TIA for any comments.

Wow, made full member there.

Will there be any benefits conferred? A cash prize? Have just looked in the FDD slot - ain't no bills coming out. Life is generally tough... :)

I have a few of the Gainsbourg remasters: the 24-bit remasters of "L'histoire de Melody Nelson" and the second reggae album (the title escapes me right at the moment), and a little earlier 20-bit remaster of "Aux armes, etc.", his first reggae album. The "24-bitters" are VERY good IMHO (the CD tray looking like polished vinyl is also very cool!), and the 20-bit version (a "special edition", whatever "special" may mean in this case) sounds a little more dull, but is also ok.
Hope this helps?
Greetings
Thomas
