Does the Classic LP replace the MoFi LP as the "king" of releases for this title? I havn't had a chance to listen yet. I thought this would be a nice change of pace. Instead of the usual DCCvsMoFi we could do a MoFi vs Classic for awhile.

Andy,

Can't help you with the vinyl question.

But, Ican tell you that the MoFi gold cd is one of MoFi's top3, at least IMHO.

This may be blasphemy but...

I think the Classic 24/96 DAD of this title sounds better than their Vinyl release.

This title has also been announced for SACD release this Spring..so that should in theory be the apotheosis of audio bliss as far as "Folk Singer" is concerned. :)

Anyone else have the DAD?

I have both the MoFi gold CD and the thick slab of vinyl versions. Both sound great to me. Also have the old Chess LP version. I just got the Classic 96/24 DAD version but haven't had a chance to do a coparison yet. Right of the bat though I like the sound of the Classic DAD. There's a rich sense of depth, placing you right into the acoustics of the studio. This is a great recording, no matter which version you have. It has all the good ingredients-- a great singer, wonderful material, just a few acoustic intruments, and a smooth analog recording with not too many microphones.

Jeffrey,

#1 The Alan Parsons Project: I Robot

#2 Blind Faith: S/T

There are a few others that rank sonically in the same category, but those are my top 3.:D

Well I have to say that I think the Classic release tops the MoFi release(talkin' vinyl). This is a very sad day. Kinda like the day I found out there wasn't a Santa Claus. I wonder if the price of the MoFi version will come down a bit?

What sort of electronic gizmo does one need to play a DAD disc? I need a scorecard to keep up with all of this alphabet soup.

What sort of electronic gizmo does one need to play a DAD disc Just a DVD player with either 24/96 capable DAC's or a DVD Player with a digital output that can feed a 24/96 capable DAC. That's it! :)

DAD's (Digital Audio Discs) were a precursor to DVD-Audio. They contain a 24/96 stereo mix and are playable on most DVD players. Now that DVD-Audio is out, I doubt we'll see many more DAD's on the market.
