Has anyone heard this? Apparently it was the first hybrid produced (not a big deal now, I guess) but I'm more curious to know whether the "Piltdown Man" grunting has been removed from the second track. That's always ruined the second side for me. If it's outta there, I'll plunk down the $$. Thanks in advance.

Why would they remove it? It's on the original, and while I can understand you not liking it, still . . .

I should have mentioned in my original post that I vaguely recall a quote from Oldfield that he was thinking of taking the Piltdown Man vocals off the track...just wondering if he followed through on the SACD version.

The SACD version is a direct mastering of the old four channel Quad tape, not a new remix.
Is this the 'growling' on the second side? I did not know it was called The Piltdown Man.
It's gone from the SACD version. Funny though, I was disappointed to hear it was gone. And you are happy. Just goes to show, you can't please everyone! :D

Gary, it's referred to as such in the LP and CD liner notes. So you have actually heard the SACD and can verify that it's gone? Thanks!

The only difference is that the 4 channel layer has a second version of Sailors Hornpipe tacked on at the end, which was on the vinyl box set version, if I recall correctly.
Really!?! Is this the dual layer SACD? But there could only be one, right?
Are you sure it's intact - including the "growling"? Is there a different version on the SACD layer as opposed to the normal layer?
I must be loosing my mind........ I'll have to listen to it again. BTW I only listen to SACDs 2 channel.

Mind you, this was just released in Canada (EMI/Virgin) a couple of weeks ago. It was released elsewhere last summer. But it has to be the same disc.
I bought mine last year - Summertime.
What's the SACD release / CD number you have on your disc? I'll compare it to mine when I get home tonight. And listen to it again, if I have the chance !

The Tubular Bells SACD is very good. The Stereo and Multichannel SACD layers beat the '70s Quad Era versions by a long shot.
A must have for SACD owners.
