Last night, listrned to DCC LP of Elvis 24 Karat Hits . Hadn't listened in a long time. WOW! Steve, you did a great job on this! It's like being in the same room on those monos.I'm not really into Elvis, but once in a while its nice to hear this music with such great sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Ron, until I got the CD I was never really into Elvis Presley's 50s and 60s music. You are right, it sounds like he's standing right in front of you! Just think if all those RCA versions sounded this way!

It still boggles the mind that all Steve had to do was do some reverse EQing!

I think that's one of the best DCC remaster!!! Steve's marvelous job easily blows away the RCA remaster! I love this record... thanks Steve for this wonderful release.

I hate admit this, but I hadn't listened to this in almost 5 years. The last time I listened was on a completely different system,as I have totally changed my system!!Shame Shame!!!!!!!!!!! I doubt that it will be that long agian!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's just a shame we won't get to experience his follow-up CD which the people at RCA killed. I'm sure that one would have been stellar as well.

24K Hits is my favorite SH mastered DCC because of the improvements that he made to the sound--amazing! It is tragic what BMG has put out, criminal really. I can only hope that somewhere down the road that Steve will get the opportunity to to see that 24K Hits II gets released....

So are there ANY decent Elvis CD masters out there other than Steve's?

I've heard the All Time Greatest Hits (red cover, 2 CD, 40 tracks) is not bad and that this pre-dates the largely horrible 50's Masters box...any views?

Besides the DCC 24 Karat Hits!, the only other Elvis Presley CDs I own are RCa's "Elvis' Golden Records", and "Golden Records" Vol 3 and 5, the remastered ones with the clear spine.

There isn't *that* much difference between the songs on these and the DCC disc, except that there is less depth and the songs sound a bit trebly and less clear. So, from my perspective, the current RCA CDs aren't *that* bad, it's just that they could be much better, and we all know it!:mad:

The reason I like the DCC Elvis 24 K Hits so much is that it sounds more like the original 45's, especially the 50's hits. I agree that the BMG releases are "clean" but it is if someone has rolled off the low end when compared to those original 45's pressed in the 1950's. Steve recaptured that full, rich sound!

Bob, I know you are also passionate about the original sound of the 45s so I am glad I at least have the sound of most of the 45 RPM his on CD, thanks to Steve.

The RCA discs are fine for the casual fan who doesn't get anal about the sound like we do. I guess that's all RCA cares about. Just think of how much more money they can milk out of us if they ever do issue new CDs (and LPs) that come closer to the DCC stuff. Hey, maybe that's the plan, you think? Except, who will do the remastering? Jourgeson? HA! HA! HA! HA!:rolleyes:

There is hope that RCA will let Steve do the G.H. 2 because as I recall from a very old posting on this subject Steve had said that RCA wouldn't let him do it because they, themselves, were going to release G.H.2 and didn't want competition from another label. (More like they were scared s_ _ tless that their garbage wouldn't sell as compared to Steves Champagne after hearing the results of 24 KT Hits):D

I would describe the sound of the original 45's as "big" with lots of low-end. The highs and dynamics are very good as well. The 45rpm sound on Too Much and One Night has nevered been captured on CD with any degree of accuracy. Perhaps, one day we will get to hear Steve's re-mastered versions!

I would strongly second your thoughts. It seems any music associated with Allan Klein is bound to sound poor on CD...vis a vie...Animals, Hermans Hermits in addition to the Stones early catalog. Thankfully, he never got the rights to more hits from that period. The fact that he has never allowed release of the Cameo-Parkway catalog on CD is criminal. Steve would be the perfect person to re-master the Cameo-Parkway catalog!...I am not holding my breath on that one....

Steve said in a recent post that RCA bumped the license fees out of of orbit for vol.2. I think it's politics (isn't it always?). There was a nasty interview a few years ago (from someone at RCA/no names being said) who accused DCC of not using the master tapes, etc. That interview was obviously "damage-control" because word was starting to spread about how good those tapes can sound and why was a lot of RCA Elvis product not up to those standards (or actually very sub-par). Marketing is a powerful tool but no matter what anybody says, we can hear the difference (Steve used the correct tapes) and I think "they" can too and people started getting nervous. Elvis is a big cash-cow for RCA (new recycled releases/seems every week) and they don't want anything to interfere with these releases and more importantly their sales (it is a music "business"). I hope one day Steve's Vol. 2 will come out but it may take some more time. Maybe S&P and DCC should become international labels (open an office in London or Italy) to bypass some of the US legal hitches??

That was a great article about the RCa 50s masters.

And I agree, Steves version kills all the others, hands down. I never did think that the quality of the "50s Masters" was all that great.

As a little aside, in 1979, I worked in the exact room where Elvis Recorded "Hound Dog" and "Dont Be Cruel" on July 2, 1956.
Old RCA Studios on 24th street in Manhattan. The building was demolished only about 3 years ago.
