I'm really glad it's finally on DVD, but am I the only one who absolutely hates the packaging?

Yes I have a copy....the packaging is the crappy kind that will be hard to store properly alright. You pull on a bottom sleeve and the 2 discs come out for the bottom and top. weird!

maybe Larry David can do an episode on proper DVD storage with Richard Lewis. :D

loved this week's episode: what do you do with a used skewer...you can't just leave it on a table!

I just got done watching the first episode with commentary. I had no idea that Jeff Garlin had a stroke. It's amazing the show was able to help him pull through and that all these years later, he's able to make light of such a scary time in his life. You've got to respect that.

I picked this set up and decided to watch the hour long HBO Special that preceded the series. Since I don't have HBO I have haven't seen this show at all, but heard how good it was. In addition I am a big Larry David fan, not only because of Seinfeld, but because of the show Fridays. In addition he used to live right next door to my mother in NYC before he hit it big (this was after Fridays, but before Seinfeld). I never got to meet him (since he never seemed to be home when I visited my mother), yet he was floored that someone actually knew who he was - and now look at him. What a success story, huh. When Seinfeld started making it big, he moved to LA. (My mother's other neighbor is still the REAL Kenny Kramer - who is, as you probably know, the basis for the Kramer character on Seinfeld.)

Anyway - the 1 hour special on this 2 disc set was funny stuff.

I haven't laughed so hard in so long. Excellent stuff. Can't wait to get to the proper episodes.

I have watched three of the episodes and while they are funny, the arent quite as funny as I thought they would be. They are very Seinfeldish though. Makes you realize how much Larry did for that show.

The show is similar to Seinfeld. Has Seinfeld made any guest appearances?

I am new to this show since I don't have HBO. I've just watched the first episode so far. Are all the episodes "one awkward moment after another"? It is interesting to see how they deal with all those awkward situations.

I watched the entire first disc last night (the first 6 episodes). I still think this is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen in quite a long time. I laughed so hard quite a few times it was insane.

Maybe my sense of humor is warped - but I think the way the show flows is really good, in that you almost feel as if nobody is really acting.. almost like a lot of it is improvised on the spot.

Not yet, but he will show up later this season.

While plot and scene outlines are made, the dialogue is all improvised. That's why the reactions are so real (Richard Lewis' laugh at Larry's "Gary Cooper" crack in the first episode comes to mind).

Yep, thats the show...one awkward Larry moment to the next.

On one episode this season Larry finds out that Mel Brooks secretary is adopting a Chinese baby with her lesbian pal.
Larry of course mentions she should name the child "Tang".

The last episode with the mentally challenged group washing his car may have been the funniest yet. I was roaring at the diner scene.

Did you notice that those are the same three guys who played Sean Penn's friends in I Am Sam?

Your mom lives in Manhattan Plaza! I used to live there after Larry moved. Kenny Kramer was the first person to tell me that I looked like Larry David. He even asked if he could take my picture. (There is a passing similarity.) Nowadays, about once a week, someone walks up to me and asks me if I ever watch HBO, or if I've ever seen "Curb". One time a guy in a restaurant told my waitress that I'd better give her a good tip because I was a millionaire. (I wish.) Another coincidence. When I was living in Sante Fe, I was an extra in a movie that starred Lucie Arnaz and Craig Wassoon. (I got cut out of the movie, which went straight to video.) I found a VHS copy a few years ago and was shocked to see that Larry David was in it! He had a lot more hair back then (1982), but then again, so did I.

YEP. Exactly where she lives, the apartment right next door to Kenny Kramer.

Technically to live in Manhattan Plaza you have to be in a performing arts union - at least that is what I am lead to believe.

My mother is a professional actress, who hasn't been very successful with regards to making large sums of money, but she is a member of SAG, AFTRA and Actors Equity. When Larry and Jerry Seinfeld were working on developing the "Seinfeld" show, they kept telling my Mother that they would try to work her into the show. Obviously it didn't happen.

Hi Mike:
Actuually, there are several ways to get into Manhattan Plaza:
1. Performing Arts Union
2. Elderly/Disabled
3. Neighborhood Resident
4. Market-rate tenant

The original plan was for the building to be performing arts people only, but in order to get all the state funding, etc, they had to add the other groups. When I met Kenny, he mentioned trying to work me into his Reality Tour (as a Larry David lookalike), but that didn't happen either. I now live a half-block away from MP, and I love seeing all the musicians and actors/actresses in the neighborhood. Soupy Sales's sidekick from the New York tv series, Frank Nastasi, lives in the Eighth Avenue building.

That would be pretty funny. Yeah, Kenny gave me a Reality Tour T-shirt and I believe my Mother has or has gotten from him other Seinfeld related items - like an A**MAN license plate that he has made up as a joke, etc.
