I was in my local used record store yesterday, and stumbled upon one of those "treasures": Avenue Gold Collection of WAR's Why can't we be friends?

Man, those guys really made some great music! This album is fantastic from beginning to end. I can't really comment on the 20 bit sound as I don't have the original to compare it with, but I keep sticking it back in the player just to hear the tunes.

Where did all the musicians go?

All we have today are "entertainers" backed up with programmed synth sounds and mulitudes of dancers hip-hoping in unison. No wonder the record companies are is such bad shape.

War is still around with one or two of the original members left. I saw them in concert a few years back and, while it was fun, they just didn't sound right scaled down.

Anyway, the Avenue Gold sounds MUCH better than the Bill Inglot remastered CDs. The Inglot CDs sound clean but have so much treble added that they're like little darts peircing your ears!

In 1994 they made a terriffic album called "Peace Sign" that you can probably still find in the cutout bins. My favorite track from it is "East LA".
