Television Personalities' Dan Treacy in coma following surgery

Heard about this several days ago. Sounds like he may have been assaulted, but there's been no news updates recently. I sure hope this isn't the way Dan Treacy goes out.

 

Latest update is October 26th:

"This is to all of Daniel's followers who have been sending positive messages and prayers > This is Patricia; Daniel's sister. Daniel is still on life support, and at this time has been off sedation for eight days, and showing up till now no change. We are awaiting results tomorrow of CT scan taken today. Please keep Daniel in your prayers. If all fans do this, who knows, we might get a miracle. We are at Daniel's bedside every day, and we thank you all for your kind words > Will update as and when we can > XXXXXXX" - Patricia Ann Mellars

 

I sure hope he pulls through. He's had one hell of a rough time over the past couple decades, and as Manicpopthrill says this is no way for him to go out.

 

I just heard about this...as a huge TVPs fan, I'm praying that Dan pulls through. His comeback over the last few years was miraculous in itself. After all the demons he's battled, as other have said, this is certainly not the way to go.

He's featured on the new Acid House Kings single, "Heaven Knows I Miss Him Now," and it is quite possibly my favorite track since "I Was A Mod..." Here's hoping that there's plenty more to come.

 

This is the first I have heard of this. The latest update does not sound good at all. Really hoping he pulls through - this guy means A LOT to me. The TVPs had an amazing run of brilliant albums that are criminally overlooked. Not surprised that this thread has seen so little action.

Latest update on "DANIEL" from Patricia. There has been no change in Daniels condition as he is still on a ventalor and not responding to anything we must keep on praying that he opens his eyes and comes back to us all. I am with him everyday and have told him of all the love and prayers you have all sent him just incase he can hear me. We have been told it is a waiting game with no guarentees to the outcome. PLEASE KEEP PRAYING LOVE TO YOU ALL XX

'‎"DANIEL" UPDATE Today Daniel managed to open one eye for nearly 10mins on and off. He is aware of people around him and is starting to move his right hand fingers when asked, it takes a lot of effort and he cant always manage it but it is a start we never thought we would see. There are however a lot of other health issues on top of everything else and as i have said before we have been told there is no guarantee as to the long term outcome as the damage he suffered from the blood clot was so serious that it was only the fantastic efforts of the Neuro Surgeons that saved "Daniels" life . PLEASE keep praying that as each day passes Daniel gets stronger. I have told him of all the love he is being sent every day. GOD BLESS you all for your kind words. Much Love Patricia XXX'

So, cautiously positive news, tho' Daniel opening his eyes and making some movement is brilliantly encouraging, I think.

 

"DANIEL UPDATE " Fantastic news Daniel is out of ITU and making great progress. Daniel has a way to go yet but at the moment all is going in the right direction. Daniel still has a Trachotomy fitted but i am getting used to lip reading untill he has some speech therapy and a change in the Tracky fitting to allow him to have a voice .This is the miracle we have all prayed for. XXXX

Wow! I really thought we may have seen the last of Dan there for awhile. Wonderful news.

 

Thank you! Completely missed seeing your post from seven days ago (another victim of our "open" forum). Anyway, great news!

 

"DANIEL UPDATE" Daniel is just getting over another nasty chest infection, and still has a tracky fitted to help with his breathing and to make it easier for the nurses to clear his lungs. Daniel is allowed to have a speaking valve fitted to the tracky for 2 hours a day to enable him to speak any longer than this, and he cannot breathe very well. He has a gastric nasal tube fitted to feed him through, but he pulls them out every day as many as four times, but he doesn't realise he has done it. He is moving his right arm and leg, but has no real co-ordernation. His left hand moves a little, but he has no feeling in his left side at the moment. There is lots more i could go into, but I think this is enough for now, just to let everyone who has asked after Daniel know that things are not very good, but are much better than we ever we thought, as Daniel was not expected to survive, but has even surprised his Neuro Surgeon getting this far. We are looking at 6 to 12 months in hospital for Daniel - he has no concept of time or days of the week . PLEASE PLEASE KEEP PRAYING . THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR KIND WORDS . I wish him well... he has a hard road ahead...I vaguely remember him. I feel the love shared for him...

 

If he can form speech at this point, that's very encouraging. He does have an extremely hard slog ahead of him though.

 

Catching up on the TVP message board - various updates latest on top


Update which i know is long overdue to all Daniel's friend's and fan's. Daniel was

transferred 11 day's ago to a Neurological Brain Injury Rehabilitation Hospital.

Daniel now has daily physio-therapy + occupational therapy + speach and language

therapy. I see slow progress daily Daniel is very tired after all this but it so

good to see the improvement he is making. Although Daniel is not walking yet and his

eye sight poor we hope the progress he has made will continue. Love to you all from

I went to visit Daniel Treacy, my former band-mate in the Television Personalities, in hospital yesterday. The good news is that he was conscious, listening and talking. His sister Pat told me that this was not predicted as a realistic hope a few months ago, so we must be thankful for small mercies. Hopefully he can regain some strength, mobility and vision in the coming months. Meanwhile, here is a photo of Dan and I together in happier times.

Latest Facebook update from Patricia, Saturday 24 December, 23:01:

"DANIEL UPDATE" Daniel is getting stronger by the day and his health is so much inproved he is now able to eat normal food but does still need help with loading the spoon but each day his co-ordernation hand to mouth is getting better. Daniel cant walk yet but the physo get him in a standing position which he dosent like as his legs cant take his weight yet and they did get him to take a couple of steps but that was with four people around him for support. Daniel has a good appetite and is enjoying his food. His spirits are up most of the time except when his memory goes which is often as he thought we where in 2001 so i let him chatter away with whatever he wants to come out with then i manage to get him round to the here and now and he can be fine for ten minutes at time some of what he comes out with is funny he even laughs himself and normaly says he is talking gobbley goop. I read him all the messages from you all he thinks i am making it all up.Daniel forgets he is in a Hospital thinks he is in a night shelter or Hostel and thinks he will be thrown out every morning . Well everyone thank you again for all your love and prayers for Daniel we wish you all a wonderfull xmas and a fantastic New Year from Daniel and myself and Alan my Husband. Been thinking about Dan lately, went looking for some news, and found this awesome picture from August 2014, taken by Texas Bob. Maybe you've all seen it already, but I think it is well worth posting here:



According to Bob, Daniel is improving bit by bit, playing guitar, and working on new ideas. Brought tears to my eyes.
