I have the Abkco "remastered from original master recording" 80051/NPS-5.
It sounds absolutely garbage. It's muffled and compressed.
This is the only copy I have of this.
Does it always sound bad?
What are your general opinions on the Abkco remastered albums from the original master tapes?

While the performances for what you hear on "Ya Ya's" are great, you may find that on the new DVD "Gimmie Shelter", things sonically sound very different ('couple of performances are mirrored there).
You may like it, you may not. I personally like it for the film (DTS) but it doesn't take my breath away. The Stones took whatever sounded good to them, made sure it had grit, and left it at that.
You realize in Britain, you might want to search out for the London-labeled German issues, but they're now very rare everywhere you go. In many cases, the London's are argueably NO better than the now-Abkco's.
If you want warm, sonic dynamite from the early stones on CD, go for the London "Hot Rocks" or better yet, "Aftermath" London/Polygram, should also be a German issue for you. It will have a pink cover. Prowl the used shops 'round there.

I have the red label London/ABKCO digitally remastered LP and while it is a bit bright, it certainly beats the old blue label (Canadian, maybe US is OK) London mess, which is muffled and suffers from a horrible channel/soundstage imbalance. But this is the exception to the rule. The ABKCO remasters are generally pretty bad. They aren't even mastered from the original masters. The original master of Jumpin' Jack Flash was not mono, nor were several other songs which are mono on the re-mastered Hot Rocks.

All,
ABKCO and "Original Master Recording"--now there is an oxymoron.
