when I always read postings... this vinyl sounds better than this one... better than the original CD... better than the Gold CD... go for this one... on and on...
I think Humorem is a serious music lover, but I would like to know, what kind of digital equipment do you use??? I hope not this cheap Sony stuff for your listening?!?
It's very hard to beat a good turntable, but you need a better CD player! Humorem take the dCS digital equipment for a serious listening at home. It consists of a dCS' Verdi SACD transport, Elgar 24/192 converter and Purcell 24/96 upsampler. I had this combination in my living room for a couple days. It sounds soooo good, natural and live! My Krell had no chance against the dCS... same with the SACD flagships from Accuphase or Marantz.
Just my thoughts...

Tom Port is a big meanie. He needs a mass public spanking. Problem is, he'd like it.
We could send him to his room without his TT?? :D

I agree about Tom "the big meanie" Port. Anymore bullying and we'll take his records away...
Todd
Aaahhh Sckott,
You really know how to hit Humorem where it really hurts.:D ;)

TT=TurnTable (TP's weapon of choice)
Todd
TT means Turn Table or turntable or record player.
Tom's not mean. He is just passionate about his music. If there were many, many more of Tom Port's in the world, the evil no-noise masters would not have got even a foothold in their vicious scheme of world domination by causing hearing loss among the masses.
And the cheap mass produced stereos will be no more - quality for everyone!
We need more Tom Ports! Down with second rate music!
:D

Turntable (TT). Sorry, sometimes I think everyone else can read my mind.
Tom IS a nice guy. He's heavilly opinionated, sometimes a big wind bag, but interesting and hard to ignore. Kinda like the Talk Show Radio Host you'd love to hate (but you don't miss listening). Just don't believe everything you read. If it sounds good to you, chill. Just don't tell Tom. He'll disagree with you and go shuffling off to find you might be right. I know there's people out there spending more on eBay then they ever have in their life because of what Tom said. (L'east I hope not). But, the way my logic works, he's a music fool as well. On the hill. Over the mountain.
But he still needs to be spanked.

Perhaps being strapped in a listening chair and being forced to listen to poorly recorded, poorly mastered, heavily compressed, over bright CD's on a Circuit City special for three straight days would be appropriate...a more pedestrian experience!
Bob
You're cruel, Bob!
But he does need a pedestrian stereo, I think. Something to make him realize what WE have to listen though.
Well, OK, ME then - I won't attemp to guestimate what everyone else has at home! The best they can afford, I'm sure!

Hey Sckott,
Do ya have a design for an appropriate DIY paddle we could use?
Jeffrey
Hey! You guys are heartless. I'm startin' to feel sympathy for Humorem.

Well, no cruelty intended but most of us do the best we can we can with what we can afford. I am leaving soon to go home, cook dinner, have a couple of cocktails and listen to some 0's and 1's through my Tascam CD player, Sony ES amps (300w p/c) and JBL L7 speakers and guess what, no EQ!
Have a wonderful evening everyone. It has been a fun day!

Find an outboard DAC and tie a loop rope to it. Should send him forward!
Jeffrey,
Yeah! And then what are ya gonna do with him after ya get him all excited?

Oh, easy! Just tie him down to a chair so he can't type, and he can watch SH forums refresh with threads like this. Oooh, the pain.

Hey Sckott,
I assume we'll be playin' the complete cataloge of all of Joe Gastwirt's remasters in the background?
Jeffrey
Yup, yup yup,
Then he'll really appreciate those Ultradisc versions.;)

DAC = Digital Analog Converter. Might as well beat him with the enemy.
Firesign Theatre: "Deputy Dan" = Tom. Muhuhhahahaha.

Very good Sckott! At least Tom still has to knock!
This is interesting, a two page thread about TP without any input from him! Judged in absentia. Are we running out of stuff to talk about or what?
Claus - Tom has posted information about parts of his system several times. I don't remember all the details but I do recall him saying he has Legacy speakers. Maybe someday he'll get a digital camera and post a pic or two. I think he just hates digital sound. I don't agree but nether my digital or analog front ends are good enough to make me an expert.

Was into that trap years ago...Moved onto CDs and never looked back...except for a few sentimental vinyl issues (which now are on CDR) no need to drive myself insane looking for things that are really difficult to locate unless you have BIG BUCKS...I love my CDs and if there is a little difference it does not take away from my listening experience! Hey, I was happy as a child listening to my pocket AM radio under my pillow to the Beatles...ahh...1964 a warm, pleasant memory!

Mike,
I was once where you are, and I hope to go back again! This is rapidly turning into a full time JOB. Am I enjoying myself? I have to say no, not completely, because if someone were to say to me, "Here are all the best versions of all of your favorite records, your search is over forever!", I would be relieved, not disappointed. The chase, the search, does not thrill me. I'm not a collector, I just want to listen to music.
I imagine (hope?) that one day I'll just get sick of the hair splitting (or the money spending), or figure I've gone far enough, and I'll quit. In a way I envy my wife, who (maybe) doesn't hear any of these differences I'm hearing, and certainly doesn't care. While I'm listening for the umpteenth time to an album, comparing versions, she is downloading all sorts of new music and expanding her horizons.
But she isn't the family "audiophile". I hold that title (burden?).

Dob,
I had thousands of LPs almost every MFSL LP and countless other "Audiophile Pressings" you name I had it!. The Beatles MFSL Boxset, UHQR Sgt Pepper, UHQR Cat Stevens , All the Beatles single MFSL releases, All the Red Mono Japaneses Beatles, All the American Versions on Japaneses vinyl, All the Stereo Japanese pressings of every Beatles record released! The Hank Williams 10 LP Japaneses Box Set, Thousands more...All gone. I have been an "Audiophile" for many years...When CD came along I embraced it and stayed with it. What really bugged me, there was always a better pressing to be found! I had the First Pressing of MFSL "Aqualung" sold it, missed it, and repurchased it, well too late the later pressing was thinner and did not have the fidelity of my first purchase. What's Ironic is that so many of my early CD release sound better than todays remasters. I'm glad I kept THEM all. Been there done that. You learn to live with each others passions and remember it's all about the MUSIC! That's why we're here in this great forum.
This is "THE" place!
