Steve,

I think you might be interested in visiting Margules Audio at the CES. I've been buying a lot of stuff from them, and I can honestly say they have some of the finest equipment I've ever listened to.

They specialize in tubed equipment. Pre's, power amps, etc. They also make a very interesting device - it's called an ADE-24. I own one of them, and LOVE what it does to digital sources (and I had vowed never to insert any processing device between my CDP and pre).

Please, try and give them a visit. They'll be at suite # 2115 in the Alexis Park Hotel. The owner & designer's name is Julián Margules. He's one of the most intelligent people I've ever met.

If you do visit, I'd be very interested in your opinions about their stuff, too! (especially when comparing their equipment to vintage).

Thanks, and take care!

Javier.

Can you post a link to their website?

Sure thing!

The entire web site is in english, BTW.

Margules is their high-end line; Magenta is their biggest "bang for the buck" line. I own stuff from both lines (Magenta's ACRH-1, ADE-24's and the Margules A3.2). I have been nothing less than impressed.

Thanks! :)

The ADE-24 that I ordered came last night. Haven't had a lot of play-time with it but you could hear the "glare" come off the top end of lots of my CD's. It's funny, it doesn't really mask the top end. The high frequencies are still there and sound "real", but the rough edge you sometimes get on CD's is gone. It also seemed to tighten up the placement of instruments and vocalists. I'll keep listening and report back.

Javier what's your take on this device, I know you own one. Have you demo'd any other gear from Margules?

Neat looking stuff. The U280-SC looks like a fine piece of gear. Not much $$ either.

Wallenjs, Steve: I have listened to the U280sc amp, the SF220R pre, the Grand Oprheus ( :bigeek: ), and other equipment. I have been very impressed by Margules' equipment (and price points).

I think his claim to fame should be the ADE-24, though. It's very inexpensive (it costs less than a pair of interconnects), but I find it really helps "tame" the sound of CD's. More exactly, the midrange is a lot better sounding. I wouldn't know how to explain what it does to the music... all I know is that I enjoy all my CD's a lot more since I installed it.
