This topic has probably been discussed but I'm too lazy to search for it, besides Humorem may not have been on the forum at that time. Here's my question: Is the Speaker's Corner pressing of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road worth buying? Tom, before you reply, I'm not flying to England to search the bins for an original DJM stamper. Now, given that what is your opinion?

Humorem's words (from the thread "Elton John find"):

"SC version? No way, Jose. I refused to sell that piece of trash. You can't tell me it sounds like your DJM. It sounds nothing like it. It's so bright it made my ears bleed. And the SV copy is just as bad. Hated em both."

I personally can't comment on the SC pressing, but just last week I got a very nice original UK DJM pressing, and it's better than any other version I own (US MCA black/"rainbow" label LP, MoFi CD, Rocket CD). Seek one out; I think I paid $7 ...

Thanks Jeff - I'll look around for one.

Listening to the SC Elton. Clean, bright. Almost too much so. Better than the US pressing. Haven't listened to the DJM. Haven't always been thrilled with other UK DJM issues. Maybe it was bad stampers ;)

MoFi CD. MoFi CD. Unless you need the LP version only.

At least the original MFSL Ultra I Gold CD version sounds the best of all the digital transfers. Listen to the MoFi version of the song "Good Bye YBR". Now, listen to the Steve Hoffman version on EJ Greatest Hits DCC Gold CD. Pretty darn close, eh?

Yes! The MoFi CD (to me) is a clear winner).

MOFI CD...yes. And, the MOFI vinyl is one of their best...like buttah!

Best,

Thanks folks. I actually own the MoFi CD but was looking to replace my old and now noisy original MCA copy (I wasn't always as careful with my albums). I'm thinking about surfing over to the UK to see if I can dig up a reasonably priced DJM version.

I have the Direct Disks 1/2 speed mastered lp. I don't have any of the other lp releases so I can't compare its sound. How does the Direct Disk sound for those who do have it and others.

Just curious.

Dave,
Have the Mofi Lp. Sounds pretty good, better than most pressings of GYBR I have heard. Unfortunately, haven't heard the UK pressings raved about by some forum members.
